Yala Nkum Ward Calls On Governor Otu To Address the Leadership Vacuum and Developmental Challenges plaguing The People

The people of Yala Nkum Ward in Ikom Local Government Area, have urged the Cross River State Government, led by Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, to urgently address the political leadership vacuum and developmental challenges plaguing their ward.

The call became necessary following the recent passing of prominent leaders in the ward, such as Chief Barr Ogar Ndoma Egodo, Prof Erim odey, Chief oga Nsor ojiji ,Engr Abung  amongst others, leaving them without guidance and direction.

Speaking on behalf of the Ward, head of Yala Nkum Clan, Osuole Patrick Ofuka expressed surprise at the seeming neglect of the ward in the distribution of opportunities, appointments and projects, insisting that the people urgently need a political leader from their midst to provide representation and guidance.

He maintained that the lack of political representation has resulted in a decline in development and progress, with deplorable road conditions, a blown-off primary school roof, and a lack of staff quarters and teachers.

"Despite rich agricultural resources, the community lacks infrastructure and support to harness them" Osuole Patrick Ofuka said.

He therefore appealed to the government to appoint a political leader from their community to represent and guide them, repair roads, restore the primary school roof, provide staff quarters and deploy teachers to the school. He also urged the government to support the agricultural sector with infrastructure and resources

On his part, the spokesperson for the youths, Owan Eneke expressed optimism that with government support, Yala Nkum can become a model community and share in the state's development and progress.

He concluded that the chiefs, women and youths of the ward eagerly await a response from the government.

The statement reads in part" We the People of Yala Nkum Ward in Ikom Local Government Area, humbly appeal to the Cross River State Government led by HE Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu to address the leadership vacuum and developmental challenges facing our community and ward.

Our ward is plagued by a lack of political representation, which has resulted in a decline in development and progress. Our roads are in a deplorable state, our primary school roof was blown off by wind, and we lack staff quarters and teachers. Despite our rich agricultural resources, including cassava, cocoa, palm products, and yams, we lack the necessary infrastructure and support to harness these resources. Additionally, we urgently need a political leader from our community to be appointed to a position of higher responsibility, to provide representation and guidance.

We believe that with the government's support, we can become a model community and share in the "season of sweetness" that is flowing across the state. We cannot afford to miss out on this opportunity"
