A coalition of APC Support Groups in the South South geopolitical zone of the country has called on Cross Riverians and Southerners not to join the planned August 1 nationwide protest, citing the devastating effects of the previous "END SARS" protest, which resulted in the destruction of properties worth billions of naira and loss of lives, as reason.

The group made the call on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, in Calabar during a World Press Conference, organized in conjunction with the office of the Special Assistant to  Governor Otu on APC Support Groups Matters, to address leaders and members of various support groups in Cross River State on the negative impact of the proposed protest as several unscrupulous elements are waiting to hijack such an event to cause mayhem in state and country.

The conference, led by Elder Comrade Iso Bassey Edim, National Chairman/Leader of the South South APC Support Groups Leadership Caucus, emphasized the need for Cross Riverians and indeed their counterparts in other states of the South South zone to adhere to the principles of consultation, consolidation, and confrontation, urging citizens to give the government more time to be able to address the various challlenges facing the country.

They praised the efforts of the state governor,  Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, in addressing the challlenges of the people, noting that, through his people oriented leadership, he has been able to provide palliatives to Cross Riverians, including food items and financial support to various groups, and called on security agents to be vigilant and prevent any violent protest.

The group advised hotel owners to scrutinize their guests and recommended the closure of any hotel that harbors strangers who may be planning to disrupt the peace in the state.

They emphasized the open-door policy of the governor and encouraged anyone with suggestions or ideas to approach the government rather than resorting to protest.

The conference concluded with a declaration of support and loyalty to Governor Otu and a commitment to peaceful resolution of conflicts in Cross River State

Other stakeholders involved in the organisation of the briefing include the Cross River State chairman of the group and SA on Cooperative Society to Governor Otu, Dr. Edem Ebong, the Chairman of SGSLI, Comrade Bright Ewona, and several others.
