Jerry Achigbe Sponsors Yala New Yam Festival's Football Tournament, Donates N300,000
A young philanthropist and former House of Assembly Aspirant for Obubra I State Constituency, Prince Jerry Achigbe, has sponsored this year's Yala New Yam Festival's football tournament. The event, which took place from August 15th to 30th at the Christ the Kings Primary School field in Yala-Obubra, featured eight teams and was aimed at promoting unity and love and discovering talents in the community.
Presenting cash prizes to the winners and runner-ups and all the participating teams, Achigbe expressed joy in the success of the tournament, attributing it to the support and cooperation from various teams. He charged them to continue to be good ambassadors, imbibing good morals in the conduct of their daily activities. The son of the late Dr. Matthew Achigbe, former state chairman of the APC, who noted that football promotes unity, love, Community spirit and youth development called for stakeholder's collaboration in exporting talents to the world. He expressed pride in the unity, bond and love in the community, urging leaders and people to maintain the momentum. The philanthropist who was represented by Eric Ogar pledged to continue to contribute his quota towards the advancement of the community, while presenting N65,000 to the officials whom he said were instrumental to the success of the competition.
In their separate remarks, the chiefs and leaders of Yala-Obubra expressed their heartfelt gratitude for Achigbe's benevolence, acknowledging that no one else had ever organized an event of such magnitude in the community. They praised his gesture, stating that it has further endeared him to the people and written his name in gold.
