What Is Your Opinion: Should Schools Resume This Year Or January next year?

Schools and Tertiary institutions have been on lockdown from the month of March, this is due to the ongoing pandemic that has claimed the lives of many people. The curb of the virus in Nigeria lead to the closure of schools, markets and public gatherings by the Federal Government and just recently the lockdown of churches has been.

 

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu have urged Nigerian students to bear with the government as matters are being settled, and in due time schools will be open. Primary schools and tertiary institutions has not yet been opened as government have not given any exact date for the reopening of schools. Recently there have been rumours flying around about government opening schools next month being September but the minister of Education cleared the air, saying no exact date have been released for the reopening of schools.

Now my opinion is this, knowing fully well that the Coronavirus in Nigeria have not yet been eradicated completely, government should focus on ways by which the virus can be eradicated so as to ease the flow of the economy. The issue of reopening of schools should be shifted to January 2021 so as to allow the government focus more on ways by which the virus can be curtained. Most Nigerian Students have lost their patience while waiting for the government but the truth Is that, Coronavirus is still on the increase and day by day we continue seeing new cases arising, opening of universities where they are over 20,000 students is definitely not the right thing to do at this time. This is because no matter the guidelines and hygiene rules the government have listed out such as hand sanitizing, wearing of facemask, social distancing and so on it won't be observed. We live in a world where people take things for granted because it does not directly affect them, most people don't even believe that Coronavirus exists so tell me if such people are found in this universities and tertiary institutions of course you know definitely there must be such kinds of people, how will the curtailing of the virus be? 

The Federal Government should use it's supreme power to postpone the Reopening of schools and tertiary institutions till next year, so as to have more time in the curtailing of the virus. Nigerian students should bear with the government because it is not easy to handle a country as big as Nigeria. So I am of the opinion that schools and Tertiary institutions be reopen next year January 2021.
