Governor Otu Flags Off Vocational Skill Acquisition Mapping Assessment Tour, Restates Commitment To Uplifting Rural communities And Enhancing Livelihoods Through Strategic Skill Acquisition Initiatives

In a significant stride toward empowering rural communities, the Honourable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs in the company of the National Program Manager of Rural Vocational Skills in Nigeria, Hon Portrait Peterson, on Tuesday, December 13, 2023, flagged off the Vocational Skill Acquisition Mapping Assessment Tour on behalf of His Excellency, Sen Prince Bassey Otu, the Executive Governor of Cross River State.

The objective of the tour is to comprehensively evaluate the vocational skill acquisition needs of rural communities in Cross River State and by conducting a thorough assessment, the government aims to tailor its support to address specific requirements, thereby fostering self-sufficiency and economic growth within these communities.

During the event, Dr Egodo emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to uplifting rural communities and enhancing livelihoods through strategic skill acquisition initiatives, asserting that the overreaching goal is to bridge the gap between rural and urban areas concerning access to vocational training and employment opportunities.

She said the tour seeks to identify specific skills in demand across various communities, enabling the government to design targeted training programs that effectively meet these needs.

"This initiative aligns with the government's broader agenda of achieving sustainable development, with a particular focus on rural areas where resources and opportunities are often limited. The emphasis on equipping individuals with vocational skills reflects the government's dedication to empowering communities, reducing unemployment rates, and enhancing the overall well-being of citizens.

This will help gather crucial data on existing vocational skills, facilities, and resources in each community. These findings will play a pivotal role in informing the government's decision-making processes related to resource allocation, infrastructure development, and potential partnerships" the commissioner concluded
