Commissioner For Humanitarian Affairs And Poverty Alleviation, Helen Isamoh-Egodo Visits The Department Of State Services, C'River State Command
In continuation of her quest to foster harmonious working relationships with key stakeholders in Humanitarian interventions across the state, the Honorable Commissioner, Cross River State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation; Hon. Mrs. Helen Agan Isamoh-Egodo, Ph.D, paid a courtesy visit to the Department of State Services (DSS), Cross River State on December 12, 2023 at the Command’s Headquarters in Calabar.
The visit afforded the Commissioner the opportunity to abreast the DSS on the mandate of the new ministry which include effective coordination of humanitarian interventions in the State as well as monitor, analyze and report on humanitarian development, disaster relief/management and emergency situations in the State.
The Commissioner equally advocated the need for robust collaboration for effective service provision to the indigent populace across the state including the Cameroonian Refugees and IDPs at various camps.
In his response, the State Director of DSS, Cross River State; Mr. John K. Sokoya msci, eulogized the Honorable Commissioner for her untiring efforts at ensuring humanitarian services are provided for the needy in the state.
He stated that the service has a rich history of collaboration with the state government in various areas. That the service has been effectively providing needed support for Conditional Cash Transfer exercises across the state.
Regarding security concerns in the state resulting in humanitarian crises, the Commissioner and DSS Director discussed about the recent attacks in some communities in Obanliku LGA by the Ambazonian Militants as well as militants attack in Akpabuyo LGA.
The DSS Director also intimated the Commissioner of a boundary clash between the people of Ijegu community in Yala LGA, CRS and neighboring Benue state which has caused displacement of the residents and forced them to seek refuge in other communities.
In his vote of thanks, the Deputy Director of Intelligence and Operations, Mr. Oza appreciated the timely visit by the Commissioner and her team, pledging continued collaboration for positive outcomes.
