Cross River State Government Recognizes Peter Okim Abang as Substantive Chairman of IPMAN

The Cross River State Government has officially recognized Peter Okim Abang as the substantive Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) Cross River State Unit.

In a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor A. Owan-Enoh, the government stated that Abang emerged as the Chairman through a democratic election held on December 1, 2023, and has been duly issued a Certificate of Return.

The letter, dated May 21, 2024, was addressed to the National President of IPMAN and copied to various security agencies and stakeholders in the sector.

According to the government, Chief Robert Obi has been parading himself as the Chairman of IPMAN Cross River State Unit, despite the emergence of Abang as the substantive Chairman.

The government therefore called on the National President of IPMAN to utilize his good office to stop Chief Robert Obi from further creating any crisis in IPMAN Calabar by directing all stakeholders in the sector in Cross River State to cooperate with Peter Okim Abang-led leadership of IPMAN Cross River.

The recognition of Abang as the substantive Chairman of IPMAN Cross River State Unit, according to the letter, is seen as a move to forestall any crisis in the sector in the state.

Meanwhile, Cross Riverians have hailed the Government's action as a victory for democracy and a testament to Governor Otu's commitment to upholding the truth and the rule of law.

Stakeholders maintained that with the development, IPMAN Calabar Unit is expected to enjoy a period of peace and stability, and the association can now focus on its core objectives of promoting the interests of its members and contributing to the growth and development of the sector.
