WHY SHOULD YALA OBUBRA VOTE IN THE FORTHCOMING ELECTIONS

By Eriacy Confidence Oba

When it gets to this period, every three or four years, politicians for  both Local, State and Federal positions make concerted efforts to visit Yala Obubra to canvass for votes, even when the road is muddy or inaccessible, they trudge or crawl to be there, to have our votes by all means. And because they need Yala votes, when they come, they will promise us heaven and earth. Knowing our major problem, they will woo us with the promise of constructing our road, they will fooled us with this or that lie.
And our people too, burdened by the need for change and yawning for remedy, without a second thought, will entrust our votes into their hands, with hope for a brighter future through good representation. These politicians will go home with our votes, blessings and most times our goats, fish and yams

And then, immediately after elections, the road to Yala will become a farm road and our people will become bush animals. They will suddenly become busy and not being able to take calls from the electorates that voted them in to office.

Today, after several administrations, Yala Obubra is still without an accessible road, electricity or pipe borne water, which are the basic necessities of life. When our people fall sick, before we rush them to Obubra, they are already dead. Last year alone, we lost over 50 sons and daughters of Yala due to lack of medical facilities in the community! And they want us to vote again? Why should we vote again? Please don't misunderstand me. I am not campaigning against citizens exercising their rights of deciding their leaders. But what has been the general benefit of Yala, my community?  Should we vote again? What different will it make? What have they told us differently?

Yala-Obubra can only produce 9000 votes. If we don't vote, won't a leader emerge? Pardon me if am advocating otherwise but I think the Yala people should be told their stake else voting again will amount to pouring soup in the river.
