Osopong Crises: Obubra Council Boss Sues For Peace Amongst Warring Communities, Says  It's Necessary To Usher In Any Meaningful Development In The Area.

DR BASSEY TOM CALLS FOR PEACE IN THE WARING COMMUNITIES OF OSOPONG 2, OBUBRA LGA

The chairman Dr Bassey Agara Tom has begged the Ebonyi speaking communities in Obubra LGA, Cross River State who are at war with the Mbembe speaking communities at the Osopong axis to give peace a chance for the sake of humanity and development. He said this yesterday July 14th 2020, when he was addressing the primary school teachers from those Waring communities who came at his behest for identification and authentication as staff of Cross River State.

The chairman decried the rumour that the institutions of learning belonging to the Cross River State government in those communities have been changed to Ebonyi and for some years now the institutions have been deserted while the teachers stay at home and receive salaries. He thanked them for honouring his invitation against their fear of being attack in Obubra, advising them to dispel such thought as the Mbembe people rather stand for peace and not war.

Speaking, the Secretary, education authority, Obubra LGA, Mrs Omom confirmed the rumour that the pupils are no longer going to school in the area and some of the institutions are now branded Ebonyi State instead of Cross River State. She went further to say that according to the rumour, the teachers receive salaries from Cross River State government and Ebonyi State government as well. Mrs Omom called on the government to do a proper investigation and resolve the issue, maintain peace for the children to return back to school as the people are fast returning to the dark age without education.

In their response, the teachers debunked such rumour of dual payment of salaries from the two States, and change of institutions belonging to Cross River State to Ebonyi State. They begged the chairman to assist them tackle their challenges, one of which is unjust demotion, and the other, promotion without implementation. They thanked the chairman for giving them the protection, saying that they will return the message to their people that Obubra is peaceful and not belligerent as they thought.

The chairman Dr Bassey Tom went further to advise the people on the need to allow peace reign for development to enter the area. He asked them to inform their colleagues who refused to come for fear of attack to try and make themselves available for the authentication or forfeit their jobs as teachers with Cross River State Government. The chairman also promised to set up a team to investigate the rumours with a view to resolving the problems and restoring normalcy.
