The United Nations General Assembly Resolution 4/06 adopted in December 1990 had set aside the 1st of October to celebrate and raise awareness on the value of seniors and their contributions in the society. However due to the auspicious event of our Nation’s Independence, it was shifted to 5th of October.
Today, we come together to honor and celebrate the wisdom, experience, and contributions of our beloved elders.
The International Senior Citizens Day is an important reminder for all of us to cherish and respect the elderly in our communities. They have dedicated their lives to building a better world for us, and now it’s our turn to ensure they live their golden years with love, care, and dignity.
Let’s take a moment today to reach out to the elderly in our lives - our grandparents, parents, neighbors, and friends - to show them how much they mean to us. Whether it’s a phone call, a visit, or a simple act of kindness, let’s make sure they feel valued and appreciated.
This day also serves as a reminder that there are many older adults who may be lonely, isolated, or in need of support. Let’s extend our kindness beyond our immediate circles and find ways to make a positive impact on the lives of elderly individuals in our communities.
Together, we can create a society that values and includes people of all ages and also advocate for policies that support the well-being of the elderly, promote intergenerational activities, and work towards a world where everyone can age with grace and joy.
Today, let’s celebrate the incredible wisdom, strength, and resilience of our elders.
Happy International Senior Citizens Day.
