WHY OBUBRA NEEDS YALA MAN AT THE HELM OF AFFAIRS: ERIACY CONFIDENCE OBA, CEO OF CONERI MAGAZINE

Eriacy Confidence, CEO of Coneri Magazine writes:

'Obubra is undoubtedly one of the oldest LGAs in  Nigeria and Cross River State in particular. But it is quiet unfortunate that, inspite of all the historic, material and human endowments of the area, it is still the least developed in the state. Several reasons have been put forward as the bane for the gross under development, Chief among them is leadership. It might interest you to know that since the creation of the LGA, only one Yala man has mounted on it as chairman and that is Dr.( or now Professor) Theophilus Owan which lasted barely six months.
Outside him, every other Chairman of the area has been an Mbembe man and for several years now, no visible developmental stride has accompanied their leadership. Instead of growing, Obubra is rather  static or do I say progressing in anticlockwise direction when our contemporaries are competing with the west in terms of developments. Take for instance, in the area of banking, Obubra has been static with just one viable bank( FirstBank) when other LGAs like Ikom and Ugep are counting ten and above. Or in the area of road infrastructures, Obubra is  in a pitiable state with only one road network linking almost all the wards in the area. It's quiet sad!
With this ugly development, one may be tempted to ask: is Obubra cursed? Of course, there are several arguments on this subject already. Some say Obubra is cursed. Others say it is not. The obvious answer is no. We are not cursed. Obubra is only battling with leadership problem. This position is held by majority of Obubra Thinkers and development analysts.

Since the consensus by majority of Obubra thinkers is that Obubra is only suffering from leadership headache, will it not be timely and appropriate to administer  panadol on it at once? And what could be that panadol to Obubra problem?

We all know that Obubra is occupied by two major ethnic groups: The Mbembe and the Yala. And for more than a decade now, the Mbembe  have been on the compass and things have not changed. Will it not be wise to try the alternative? I mean the second major tribe.

The Yala man that I know is a born leader. He possesses the kind of pragmatic and people oriented leadership that Obubra needs. Testimonies from the few that have occupied informal positions in the LGAs are there for the doubting Thomases to satisfy their curiosity.
On the other hand , i do not mean the Mbembe man cannot make a good leader. But since all the successive administrations, being mainly of Mbembe extraction , have not yielded positive results, the Yala man should be tried. The Yala man has what it takes to take Obubra to the dreamed height. Let's give him a chance, and a chance I believe will change the political and economic state of Obubra'
