- An APC chieftain, Senator Anthony Adefuye, has argued that it is the turn of the southwest to produce Nigeria's president in 2023
- Adefuye claimed the southwest has not occupied the presidency since 1999, alleging that former president Obasanjo is an Igbo man from the southeast
- Afenifere, a Yoruba social-cultural group, has, however, dismissed the claim saying it is a twisted logic being pushed to advance political interests
The permutations for the 2023 presidency has taken another dimension as Senator Anthony Adefuye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), claimed the southwest has not produced Nigeria's president since 1999.
Conari magazine citing a report by The Independent, said the APC chieftain, therefore, argued that it is the turn of the southwest to produce the president of Nigeria in 2023.
Adefuye claimed that those clamouring for the presidency to go to the southeast were wrong just as he alleged that the region produced Nigeria's president from 1999 to 2007.
2023: APC chieftain Adefuye claims Obasanjo is an Igbo man from Anambra state
Conari magazine notes that Olusegun Obasanjo, a prominent Yoruba chief from Ogun state in the southwest, was Nigeria's president within the period mentioned by the APC chieftain.
However, Senator Adefuye alleged that Obasanjo is an Igbo man and that his father hailed from Anambra state while his mother was a Yoruba woman.
Afenifere, Yoruba socio-cultural group, reacts
Afenifere, the apex Yoruba socio-cultural organization, has dismissed the allegation that Obasanjo is not a Yoruba man.
