The Cross River State Joint Task Force on petroleum on Tuesday, 4th July, 2023 reached an agreement with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp, NSCDC to curb oil bunkering, pipeline vandalism and other illegal activities in the petroleum sector.

Speaking during a courtesy call on the state commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp in Calabar, the chairman of the Joint Task Force, Hon. Peter Okim commended the corp for the critical role they have played in the sector over the years, while revealing that the purpose of the visit was to brief the commandant on the mandate of the committee and their challenges with view to seeking partnership to halt the activities of criminals. The chairman went further to reel out their achievements within the short time of operation to include, clearing the highway of trucks and clamping down on marketers selling above the regulated price, amongst others.  He also announced that the governor also mandated the team to generate revenue for the state with special order to take over the park and give it a facelift. He added that such a partnership will bring about the realisation of their mandates as the NSCDC is a critical stakeholder in the petroleum sector.

Responding, the state commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp, Samuel Adekunle Fadeyi welcomed the team, while urging them to be prepared for stiff resistance from mostly the tankers drivers union. The commandant also made some valuable recommendations to assist the task force in achieving their mandate.
