WHY ETENG SHOULD BE GIVEN A SECOND CHANCE.
In the political arena, criticism is not uncommon. However, it is essential to distinguish between constructive feedback and a targeted campaign of disparagement. Regrettably, the latter seems to have taken center stage in the narrative surrounding Senator Eteng Jonas. While part of me empathized with the dissenting voices and even penned a critique of his governance mid-last year, I have since evolved from a critic to a keen observer, witnessing firsthand his redirection and newfound focus on actionable initiatives within his constituency.
What I have observed over the past year is a seasoned legislator fully embracing his role and responsibilities. Senator Jonas has made commendable strides in addressing the pressing needs of Central Cross River, tackling issues ranging from infrastructure development to education and healthcare. His commitment to bettering the lives of his constituents is palpable, and it is reflected in the tangible projects and programs that have been initiated under his leadership.
Senator Eteng is not new to the political landscape. His journey began as the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, where he honed his skills in legislation and governance. This experience has equipped him with the insight necessary to navigate the complex labyrinth of national politics. The art of legislating and advocating for the needs of his constituents is no simple task, yet Senator Jonas approaches it with dedication and finesse.
I find it rather amusing that some might suggest alternatives for leadership, such as Oden Ewa, the Cross River State Special Duties and Humanitarian Commissioner, who is rumored to be running for the Senate in 2027. While every individual has the constitutional right to pursue public office, it is crucial for us, the people of Central Cross River, to evaluate the trajectory of leadership based on experience and effectiveness. Senator Jonas has proven his mettle and has learned the ropes in the crucible of governance, whereas new candidates lack the depth of understanding that comes with years of service.
A second chance for Eteng Jonas is not merely about giving a man another opportunity; it is about investing in a leader who has shown promise, dedication, and a sincere desire to foster positive change in Cross River Central. It symbolizes a vote of confidence in a representative who is actively working to not only voice our concerns in the chambers of the Senate but is also committed to engaging with constituents on the ground.
Every leader encounters their share of criticism and doubt, but it is how they respond to adversity that defines their legacy. Senator Jonas has demonstrated that through his proactive approach, and it is clear that he continues to listen - with intention, so that he can serve effectively. His efforts are not just about winning votes, but about winning trust and respect from those he represents.
In the grand narrative of our democracy, a second chance for Senator Eteng Jonas symbolizes hope - the hope that we can continue to work towards a brighter future for Central Cross River. Let us rise above the noise of witch-hunting and recognize the potential for positive change. It is time to focus on the actions, not just the words, and to support a leader who has consistently shown resilience and progress.
As we move toward the elections, let’s rally behind Eteng Jonas - not as a solitary figure, but as a beacon of what leadership should aspire to be. Let us support a candidate who has not only learned from the past but is determined to build a better tomorrow for all of us. Because every second chance is not just an opportunity for redemption, but a reminder that perseverance and dedication can truly transform a narrative.
