Akamkpa/Biase 2027: Youths Back Emil Inyang’s Second Term Bid, Cite Performance and Need for Continuity
Youths of Akamkpa/ Biase Federal Constituency have thrown their weight behind the second-term bid of Hon. Dr. Emil Inyang, ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing his impactful representation, empowerment programmes, infrastructural projects, and legislative excellence within his first tenure in the House of Representatives.
The declaration was made on Wednesday during a press conference in Calabar by the Akamkpa/Biase Youth Movement, where stakeholders, youth leaders, and community representatives unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the federal lawmaker and appealed to the Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, to support Inyang’s re-election bid in the interest of continuity and stability within the constituency.
Speaking during the meeting, a stakeholder from Ehom Ward in Biase, Daniel Enang, emphasized the need for unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC), warning that internal divisions within the constituency could weaken the party ahead of future elections.
“We are concerned about the growing division in our federal constituency. As youths, we are not prepared to go into any election with this kind of division,” Enang stated. “We passionately appeal to the Governor to unite the party and support the second-term candidature of Hon. Dr. Emil Inyang.”
Enang praised the lawmaker for his visible developmental strides across the constituency, noting that Inyang had facilitated the installation of over 24 solar-powered boreholes in several communities, trained more than 800 constituents in agriculture and fisheries, and empowered 60 beneficiaries with one million naira each as business start-up grants.
According to him, the lawmaker’s interventions have directly improved the livelihood of many families and restored confidence in democratic representation among the people.
Also speaking, Hon. Raphael Egwu from Erei North recalled Emil Inyang’s loyalty and sacrifices for the APC, noting that the lawmaker had, on previous occasions, stepped down his political ambition in the interest of party harmony and peace.
“For equity and fairness, let us allow him complete eight years. After that, another person can take over,” Egwu said. “Allowing continuity will preserve the peace and stability we currently enjoy in Akamkpa and Biase.”
Former Vice Chairman (South) of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Cross River Chapter, Comr. Amb. Elvis Enyam, in his contribution, stressed that continuity remains essential for sustainable development, especially considering the numerous projects already initiated by the lawmaker and captured in the 2025 and 2026 federal budgets.
“If you truncate a man’s administration midway, sustainability becomes difficult. Many of his projects are still ongoing and require continuity for completion,” Enyam stated.
The Youth Leader of Akamkpa, Seeker Otu, further highlighted the lawmaker’s empowerment efforts, revealing that Inyang had facilitated over 52 employments and empowered more than 40 constituents financially within less than three years in office.
“We are appealing to our Sweet Prince, Governor Bassey Otu, to listen to the cries of the youths and allow Hon. Dr. Emil Inyang continue the good work he has started,” he said.
On the legislative front, Hon. Onete Onete Elem commended Inyang’s performance at the National Assembly, describing him as one of the most active first-time lawmakers from the state.
He disclosed that the lawmaker had sponsored several bills aimed at improving education and development in the constituency, including bills seeking the establishment of a College of Agriculture and Forestry in Akamkpa, a College of Nursing and Midwifery, and a technical education institution.
Elem also referenced Inyang’s motions and interventions on critical national issues, particularly his role in drawing federal attention to the lingering boundary disputes between Cross River and Abia States.
“He has distinguished himself through legislative excellence. Even as a first-timer, he has initiated several bills and motions that directly impact the wellbeing of our people,” Elem noted
Representing the women at the meeting, the Woman Leader of Ehom Ward, Ekaete Pius, applauded the lawmaker’s agricultural support initiatives, particularly the yam value chain programme that provided women farmers with seedlings and fertilizers to boost food production and household income.
“He has consistently supported women and farmers in our communities. We are appealing to His Excellency and the First Lady to allow him complete his mission,” she stated.
The meeting concluded with a unanimous resolution by members of the Akamkpa/Biase Youth Movement to remain committed to mobilizing support for the APC while advocating for continuity in the constituency through the re-election of Hon. Dr. Emil Inyang in 2027.
The youths maintained that sustaining the current representation would not only consolidate ongoing projects and programmes but also deepen development, peace, and political stability across Akamkpa and Biase Federal Constituency.
