WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE IGBO PEOPLE

The Igbo people are a very large nationality found predominantly in the South Eastern geopolitical zone of the federal republic of Nigeria and some kindred groups in the South South zone of the country, particularly in Delta, Rivers and Cross River States respectively with a population of over 60 million natives. The Igbo are regarded as the most traveled and adventurous tribe in Africa with one out of every five Africans found outside the shores of the continent being Igbo.

The Igbos are believed to have originated from the Jewish state of Israel, migrated through Sudan and settled at the Niger-Benue confluence and later moved to their present location due to pressure.

Where ever the Igbos are found, they manifest their commercial, artistic and leadership ingenuity. They have great zest for adventure, commerce and industry. This makes them primarily public servants, educators, entertainers and captains of industry and commerce.
It is evidently clear that one out of every two Nigerian entertainers is an Igbo. No wonder they populate nollywood and the creative industry, the markets across the continent and all public institution of relevance to humanity. They tend to be very creative and glaringly successful in every field of human endeavor. A fast rising nollywood actor from the Idoma/Yala extraction once said one must run from any industry where an Igbo man is not found. That indicates the fact that the Igbo are the yardstick for measuring any worthwhile venture.
In the entity called Nigeria, the Igbos are on top of anything and everything worth doing. They represent industriousness and industrialization in any given society. The single believe that the other tribes coexisting witth  them in the country are setting them back developmentally among other things has perpetually created conflicts between them and the government and perhaps has attracted suspicion, injustice, hatred and suffering to them.
The attendant reaction to the injustice meted to them by other tribes is their perpetual struggle for self determination, with the belief that a country of their own will provide them with the opportunities to unleash all their potentials as a great people.
Having read so much about these unique people of Nigeria, it will interest you to know that the Igbo are not just successful businessmen, entertainers, educators, public servants and leaders, they are also great scientists. This is evident in the strides of Philip Emeagwali, a Nigerian American sensational scientist of Igbo extraction who performed the fastest calculations paving way for the invention of the super computer. Even during the civil war, there was rumor that the local Igbo soldiers manufactured bombs and ammunition that saw them through it some even say they Igbos have a hidden genus that they can only unveil when on their own. Is this really true? Your guess is as good as mine.


Apart from that, the Igbo are also peace  and freedom lovers. To the Igbo people, every man is a king. A king does not order another king around. Even when they colonists came, they met so many autonomous communities instead of organized kingdoms. Everyone wanted to govern himself and be the king of his house. Maybe that is the reason behind their constant agitation for the republic of Biafra. They believe that the Hausa and Yoruba are now seating as rulers over them.They wouldn't want anybody to boss over them.

Besides being hugely successful in business and entertainment, the Igbo people are culturally rich. This they have used it to add color to the movie industry.
