The Devastating Effect Of The Ekeya Street Gully Erosion On Her Residents.

Ekeya is the name of a popular street in Calabar, the capital city of Cross River state, Nigeria.

Residents of this once beautiful street now sleep with one eye open when the rainy season comes to its full effect, since 2004.

What started like a drainage, has now become a nightmare to people living within and around the street.

It will be worthy to note that this street is close to the state owned university (Cross River University Of Technology, CRUTECH), so the government can't say it is not aware of this death trap in Ekeya. Also, the street houses primary and secondary schools which increases the risks it posses on its residents.

Residents have cried out to the government on numerous occasions, but government in her usual show of negligence have kept deaf ears to their appeal to intervene.

Government have promised to include the gully site in their numerous previous budget dating back to 2007, now it's 2020 and not even a piece of wood have been laid for the residents to use in crossing over.

Images accompanying this piece will give the public a true picture of what residents of this area are passing through.

Some section of this gully erosion site have eaten so deep into most compound, that occupants now have to look for alternative route to exit their homes to go for their everyday business.

As i round up this episode, I urge government to look into this subject matter and treat as important & Urgent, because the rain will be coming in ernest.
