Obubra: The New Investment Destination In Cross River State.

2020 will be remembered in history as one of the worst years. Apart from the fact that our beloved country Nigeria lost many of her energetic and resourceful youths to the extravagance of military and paramilitary intolerance and bad governance, the world came under the siege of a temporarily invincible pandemic that brought to an abrupt halt several businesses, programs and dreams; several Governments were compelled to declare total lock down on activities in their countries precipitating untold hardships, hunger and social vices. Indeed, many things transpired as thousands of people lost their lives, families and sources of livelihood as a result of the outbreak of the novel corona virus pandemic. And not long after, many people lost their lives again and properties worth millions looted and vandalised as hoodlums infiltrated and hijacked the peaceful protest by the youths.

But, while the world experienced this political,  social and economic downturn, Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State basked in plenty and flourished in agriculture, politics and commerce. Although, the boom couldn't replicate itself in the educational sector. But in all, Obubra was unpertubed and remained promising.

.

In Agriculture for instance, during the lock down, an Obubra Agropreneur, Vincent Ovat fondly called Dylan, now SA on Agriculture to the Cross River State Governor cultivated over 1000 hectares of Rice Farm,  the largest farm allegedly owned by an individual in the state putting the Area on the boat for food sufficiency and creating over 1000 jobs for the locals. He also established one of the largest privately owned fish farms in Cross River State, stocked up over 2 million hecthrobrencous(a specie of cat fish) and employed over 50 fishermen. The overall impact on the economy of the industrious farmers of Obubra by the outbreak of corona virus could only be likened to drizzles of water on the back of the duck. That is to say, while the world was thrown into poverty and hunger  by the pandemic, Obubra farmers were busy in their farms and plantations cultivating to feed the rest of the country.

In politics, Obubra was blessed with a set of new leaders that have shown capacity, determination and passion to turn the LGA on the path of development. First, the 2019 elections gave us Rt. Hon. Mike Etaba, Rt Hon. Friday Okpechi and Hon. Frank Ovat as members representing Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency, Obubra 1 State constituency and Obubra 2 State constituency. Soon, they were joined by Hon. Peter Akam and Hon Blessing Egbara as Commissioners for Industry and Humanity and social welfare respectively. Then came the election of  Dr. Bassey Tom as Chairman of Obubra Local Government council and  Comr Dan Obo as Chairman, CRS NYCN. These set of leaders, from antecedents are committed to the ideals of development in the area if they remain focus.

In the area of hospitality, entertainment and sports, Obubra is sitting in a time bomb and about to explode as two big events have been scheduled to hold in November and December respectively.

Hon. Queen Gladys Igut, Initiator of Central Sports Festival and Commissioner, Sports Commission, Cross River State.

First, the Sports Festival initiated by Queen Gladys Igut, Commissioner in the sports commission, is in the oven baking for November this year with grand finale scheduled to hold in Ikom. Censport is positioned to discover and place talents in the central senatorial District on the global map. Also, the Obubra Unity Tournament, a brain child of PREMIUM SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT LTD AND OBUBRA DEVELOPMENT FORUM is gathering momentum within and outside the LGA. The event which is jointly coordinated by the LOC Chairman MR ABRAHAM OKPA, Hon EMMANUEL

EKONG ( ODF) and CAESAR ABAM ( PSEL)  is another event that will take the LGA by storm this year. These events are most certainly going to open Obubra up for investments and tourism activities thereby giving room for development.

Obubra is gradually redeeming its image as not just an agricultural hub but as the actual investment destination in Cross River State. With a peace loving people, a rich cultural heritage, a seductive climate and a vast landmass, Obubra prides itself as the new Tourism and cultural hub in the state. It is where every businessman should situate his or her investments. So the next time you think of a destination to invest your resources that will yield real profits, think Obubra.

In summary, I would say that the year 2020 has been very bad and good, destructive and constructive, discouraging and amazing, ambiguous and revealing, historical and futuristic to the well-being of Obubra. So many losses  but more gains. So many deaths but mores lives were saved. So many challenges but there seems to have been more achievements this year that our previous outings and most importantly, there seems to be a brighter light at the end of the tunnel. The new Obubra is possible.
