UNIVERSITY OF CALABAR POST GRADUATE STUDENTS GOVERNMENT, HOLDS HER ELECTIONS SENSITIZATION CONGRESS.
The post graduate students Government of the university of calabar, have organized an election sensitization congress for intending aspirants of electoral offices in the association.
The congress which held at the open pav of the university of calabar, led to the inauguration of a six man elections tribunal, who were all administered with the oath of office for a judicious delivery of electoral duties.
In the congress, the electoral board chairman, Comr. Samuel Ibor elucidated that, he is committed to conducting a free and fair elections for the post graduates students Government of the institution and further revealed that press briefings,presentation of manifestos and debates will all hold on the same date with a wide publicity of the electoral activities to be done across the state by media houses, as informations on the activities of pgsg will not be limited to only the university environment but will attain wide publicity.
Comr. Samuel ibor stated that the counciling of aspirants is mandatory to get them tutored on the electoral guidelines and precepts, while he emphasized on the eligibility of aspirants to include,
*Being a full time student of the university of calabar.
*Being a bonafide member of the association.
*Aspirants must have paid up to date school fees without any outstanding debt to the Institution.
Speaking, the eleco chairman condemned the use of thugs, foul languages and constituting of violence during campaigns as such exhibitions would lead to the disqualification of aspirants, while he warned that his inclusion as the eleco chairman in campaign arrangement or structures by any aspirants, is not acceptable by him and this may lead to disqualification of aspirants, if any information of such reaches him as his mandate is to conduct and oversee a just elections that is strictly devoid of favours without credit to friendship or relationship untill after elections results have been announced and inauguration done as he reiterated that, him as the electoral board chairman reserves the right to annul elections if credibility is not attaintained.
In the course of deliberation, the use of electronic voting system was disagreed by members of the association as they all requested and insisted on the use of the manual open balloting electioneering system where all voting, counting and compilation of results would be done in the open field for the visibility of all and supervised by the electoral body.
A six man elections tribunal panel was constituted and inaugurated with administeration of oat of office on them, to diligently perform their electoral duties in consonance with the electoral guidelines and are expected to deliver judiciously.
While interest were indicated for several electoral offices by aspirants, the electoral board chairman declared that elections forms are free for the physically challenged and encouraged them to contest as it is their constitutional right as members of the association and Nigerians.
In his closing remarks, the electoral board secretary, Barr. Patrick Utitufon assured the members and aspirants, of a free and fair elections that will birth a new administration of suitable and distinctive officers in the association.
