Governor Ayade Urges Consumers To Be Vigilant In What They Consume.



The Digital Governor of Cross River State, Sen Prof Ben Ayade admonishes the people of Cross River State and her residents to be vigilant in what they consume. This was contained in a speech delivered by the Director General of the Cross River State Consumer Protection Agency, Prince Charles Ushie as part of activities to Mark the 2022 Consumer Rights Day celebrations, 

The Cross River Consumer Protection Agency embarked on a sensitization tour round the streets and markets of Ikom Local Government Area to educate the people on their rights as consumers.

The Director General while addressing the people of Ikom unveiled the theme of the year as "Fair Digital Finance" and said the agency has been tremendously working hard to protect consumers from fake, hazardous, expired and unwholesome goods and services.

On why they decided to mark this year World Consumer day at Ikom, the DG said Ikom is the commercial hub of the state with a fast growing economy and a border Community with the Cameroons, He also mentioned that as a trans-saharan trade route, with a lot of business interest may give room for the circulation of fake, substandard and expired goods.

He further advised both the vendors and consumers to strictly check for NAFDAC Number, SON certification, Manufacturing and Expiring dates in every goods they buy and avoid buying products that do not meet the aforementioned requirements. He further advised shop owners and vendors to create 'Clearance Shelves' in their shops where items that are three months to expiration would be displayed for consumers to buy at give away prices for immediate use.

Prince Charles advised the people of Ikom and it environs to avoid eating food cooked with polythene (waterproof), plastics and stop the roasting of meats with tires as the chemicals obtained from the heat transfer is poisonous to human health. He encouraged the public to report vendors and manufacturers found selling or producing fake, substandard and expired products to the Cross River Consumer Protection Agency. 

Part of the event was issuance of certificate of compliance by the Director General to some vendors who are certified to have met and maintained standards.



Prince Ushie extolled the Governor, His Excellency Senator (Prof) Ben Ayade who has been a people oriented governor and has always put the interest and well-being of the people as a priority in his agenda deemed it necessary to establish the agency in 2016 for the same purpose of protecting the people from fake, substandard, expired and unwholesome goods and services that are perilous to human health, adding that the contributions of the Governor to the development of the state are inestimable as Cross River State has gained global/ international focus through the aesthetic ideas and developmental strides of the Governor. pledging his total support on the programmes of Governor Ben Ayade, Prince Ushie charged Cross Riverians to support the Industrialization strides of the Governor as well as ensure the security of Government projects in their Communities as Governor Ayade's administration has offered the best governance should give to her citizens.
