Imo Communities Laud Etaba's Commitment To Fairness And Justice


The traditional rulers and  people of Mbaise District of Imo state have praised the efforts of Rt. Hon. Mike Etaba, member representing Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency in ensuring equity, fairness and justice for all Nigerians.

The lawmaker received the commendation on Saturday when he led the House Committee on Public Petitions on an investigative visit to Mbaise District of the  State to address issues raised in a petition regarding electricity supply.

The petition, presented by M. C. Chambers (Barr. Malachy Nwaekpe Esq.), highlighted issues such as the abandonment of the Aboh Mbaise Transmission Station, perpetual blackout, extortion through estimated billing, and neglect by relevant authorities. After engaging with both the petitioner and the respondents, the committee decided to visit the communities for an on the spot investigation.  

Key concerns raised in the petition included the completion of the Aboh Mbaise Transmission Station, ending extortion through estimated billing, and the need for upgraded infrastructure to meet the electricity demands of the growing population. The importance of metering every building for fair billing and upgrading transformers to improve voltage supply was also emphasized.

Speaking at different intervals, the traditional ruler of Aboh Mbaise, HRH Eze Onyekachi Ukpabi of Ibeku, his counterparts in Ezinihitte Mbaise, Ahiazu Mbaise and Amagbor Ihitte,  HRH Eze R.J.C. Aguwamba, Eze Oha II of Okpofe, HRH Eze Pius Iwu of Umuokirika, HRH Eze Thomas Nwokedi of Ogbor and HRH Eze Dimgba of Amagbor Ihitte, remarked that the House Committee of Public Petitions has achieved so much in a short time due to the dedication of the chairman and other members of the  committee. While they commended the committee for their sustained commitment to justice, they called for expedite actions to arrest the plight of Ndi Mbaise. 

In his remark, the chairman of the committee, Rt. Hon. Mike Etaba thanked the monarchs, women, youths and other stakeholders of Mbaise District, particularly, the leaders of Aboh Mbaise and Ngor Okpalla LGA for the warm reception, describing them as a very hospitable and enterprising people. He expressed the willingness and readiness of the committee and that of the House of Representatives to ensure the restoration of electricity to the area, maintaining that they would continue to provide an accessible platform for citizens to have their voices heard and seek justice. He stressed the importance of fair hearings, promising to continue to ensure equity, fairness, and justice for all Nigerians.

During their visit, the committee conducted thorough assessments in Ibeku, Okpofe, and Ihitte communities, paying homage to traditional rulers along the way  before proceeding to Owerri, the state capital, the following day.

The outcome of the committee's visit and investigations will be presented to the House and will be crucial in addressing the challenges faced by the people of Mbaise District and, ultimately, improving the overall development of the country.
