Awaade of Lagos Attempts Guinness World Record for Longest Theatre Marathon.

Awaade of Awade Jacob Awade, popularly known as Awaade of Lagos, is a Nigerian theatre artist and graduate of Theatre and Media Studies from the University of Calabar. He is currently attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest individual theatre performance. His goal is to surpass the existing record of 110 hours and 46 minutes, set by Adrian Hilton from the UK in July 1987. 

The record-breaking attempt commenced on March 28, 2025, at 9:30 PM at Romaan Lounge in Calabar and is scheduled to conclude on April 1, 2025. Throughout this five-day event, Awaade is performing solo renditions of three significant plays:


"The Prisoner" by Chris Nwamuo


"Who is Afraid of Solarin" by Femi Osofisan


"Death and the King's Horseman" by Wole Soyinka



Through these performances, Awaade aims to shed light on societal issues such as the harsh realities of prison life, corruption, and the importance of tradition in African culture.
