Councillor Constructs Culvert, Installs Solar Street Lights in Obubra Community
The Councillor representing Osopong Ward 2 in Obubra Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Amuche Akata, has facilitated the construction of a concrete culvert and the installation of five solar-powered street lights in Bikinu community of Osopong clan.
Speaking with the publisher of Coneri Blog, Eriacy Confidence, Hon. Akata explained that the culvert was constructed to ease movement, particularly in this period of persistent rainfall, while the solar lights were installed to provide a reliable source of illumination at night, improving security and the safety of lives and properties in the area.
“My motivation for undertaking this project is to reduce the hardship my constituents face due to poor infrastructure. The culvert will improve access, while the solar lights will bring much-needed relief to residents who have long lived in darkness,” she said.
The project has drawn widespread commendation, with many people taking to social media to celebrate what they describe as a rare display of grassroots leadership and responsiveness.
Some commentators have even compared Hon. Akata to one of Osopong’s most revered former councillors, Hon. Tony Onagha, known for his efforts in restoring peace to the area, during the administration of Dr. Bassey Agara Tom as chairman.
With this intervention, Hon. Akata is steadily earning a reputation as a transformative leader from the same clan, emulating the likes of the late Dr. Etaba and Hon. Alex Irek, both former council chairmen credited with driving infrastructural development in the area. Notably, she is breaking new ground as a woman setting the pace in local governance.
Below are a few comments from social media users:
"This is highly commendable. First of its kind. Your ticket was not a mistake. Thank you Pst. Oganiru for giving us a good candidate. This is leadership by example."
"Wow! This is incredible. Congratulations to the people—your mandates are in safe hands with Hon. Amuche."
"What a man cannot do, a woman has done better—congratulations, ma!"
