AGN C’River Visits Hit FM Calabar, Rolls Out Activities to Mark 2026 International Actors’ Day

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Cross River State Chapter, has commenced activities to mark the 2026 International Actors’ Day with a courtesy visit to Hit FM, Calabar.

The chapter Chairman, Mrs. Beatrice Akonjom, led members of her Executive Committee on the visit, yesterday during which she participated in a live radio programme, reeling out the activities lined up for the 2026 edition

Speaking on the theme, “Actors Beyond the Screen: Impacting Communities, Transforming Lives", Akonjom highlighted the significant contributions of Nigerian actors to the entertainment industry and society, stressing that actors have roles to play beyond film production by contributing to community development and social transformation.

She disclosed that the chapter had lined up a series of activities to commemorate the celebration, including embarking on traffic management and the distribution of relief materials to victims of various disasters.

The Chairman, a retired Permanent Secretary in the Cross River State Ministry of Health, was accompanied by critical stakeholders of the guild, including former Vice Chairman and current Secretary, Emmanuel Owoche, popularly known as Scotto; former Vice Chairman, Imaobong Ben; former AGNEC Chairperson, Ezinne Owoh; Chief of Staff and lecturer with Unical, Obedience Abeng; former presidential aide and Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Eriacy Confidence Oba and Chairman of the Creative Designers Guild of Nigeria, in the state, Mascot!

According to Akonjom, the celebration will culminate on Wednesday with a walk through the city of Calabar and the distribution of relief materials to beneficiaries.

Following the visit to Hit FM, the team proceeded to a Masterclass organised by former AGN Chairman and former Cross River State Commissioner for Tourism, Hon. Eric Anderson, who currently serves as Special Adviser to the Governor on Callywood.

The Masterclass provided participants with practical training in various areas of filmmaking and content production, including cinematography, video editing, acting, scriptwriting, constume design and make up.

The AGN Chairman commended the organisers for creating opportunities for practitioners to acquire new skills and improve their professional capacity in the rapidly evolving entertainment industry.

The team later visited the guild’s treasurer, Nkiru who was affected by the recent fire incident at Spar Calabar.

During the visit, the Chairman expressed solidarity with the victim and reiterated the guild’s commitment to supporting its members in times of need.

The activities form part of the Cross River AGN’s broader efforts to use the 2026 International Actors’ Day celebration to promote professional development, community engagement and the welfare of actors in the state.
