Ndoma Odey Foundation Distributes Relief Materials, Cash Support to Alesi Community, Calls for Lasting Solution to the Crisis 

The Ndoma Odey Foundation on Wednesday distributed relief materials, including bags of rice and cash support, to residents of Alesi Community in Ofutop, Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State, as part of efforts to cushion the effects of the prolonged inter-communal conflict between Alesi and neighbouring Ochon Community in Obubra Local Government Area.

Presenting the relief materials and cash donation to the community, the Director-General of the Ndoma Odey Foundation and Director with the Cross River State Internal Revenue Service, Chief Dr. Ndoma Odey, said the intervention was motivated by the Foundation’s commitment to supporting vulnerable people and providing succour to communities facing difficult circumstances.

He said the Foundation was particularly concerned about the impact of the crisis on women, youths, families and other vulnerable members of the community, adding that the intervention was intended to cushion the immediate effects of the hardship.

Chief Ndoma Odey said the gesture was also in support of the People First Agenda of the Cross River State Governor, His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, describing it as part of efforts to complement the administration’s people-oriented programmes.

He urged the people to continue to support the Otu administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming elections.

According to him, his interventions in communities are partly enabled by the opportunity provided through his appointment to serve the people, stressing that continued support for the Governor and his administration would help create an environment where more people-focused initiatives could thrive.

Beyond the immediate humanitarian intervention, Chief Ndoma Odey called for peace, understanding and dialogue between the affected communities. He stressed that meaningful development could only take place in an atmosphere of peace and security.

Receiving the relief materials on behalf of the community, the Clan Head of Alesi, Chief Christopher Nzan, expressed appreciation to the Ndoma Odey Foundation for the gesture.

Chief Nzan said the intervention had come at a critical time, maintaining that the crisis has disrupted livelihoods and subjected residents to significant hardship. He described the gesture as timely and significant, particularly as many families continue to grapple with the consequences of the crisis and further appealed for sustained efforts towards finding a lasting solution to the conflict.

Also speaking, the Youth Leader, Ntun Richard Ntanbang, thanked the Foundation for remembering the community during a difficult period. He said the assistance would go a long way in supporting affected families and cushioning the effects of the crisis on residents.

The General Youth Leader of Bakor, Ogar Mighty, also commended the Foundation for the humanitarian intervention, describing it as a demonstration of compassion and commitment to the welfare of the people.

In his remarks, the Secretary of the APC Ofutop Ward 2, Iyam Oscar, appreciated Chief Ndoma Odey and members of the Foundation for the gesture, while urging other individuals, organisations and well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the initiative by supporting communities affected by conflict and other humanitarian challenges.

The Director-General was accompanied by members of the Foundation, including Hon. Barr. Philomena Egodo, Councillor representing Ofutop Ward 1, as well as other officials and community stakeholders.

The intervention is part of the Ndoma Odey Foundation’s broader commitment to humanitarian assistance, community development and improving the welfare of vulnerable people across communities in Cross River State.
