The Governor of Enugu State, Rt.Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, yesterday, commissioned Enugu Unity Park, one of the projects undertaken by his administration as a drive towards revamping the Tourism sector in the state. The Park houses a 42 feet high, 72 feet long and 24 feet wide sculpture believed to be the largest Lion sculpture in the world.

Commissioning the park, Ugwuanyi said the project offers the good people of Enugu State an opportunity to relive the past when the city urbanisation had not obliterated its recreation areas.

The governor said his administration through the development of the Unity Park located adjacent to the popular Michael Okpara Square, Independence Layout, Enugu, responded to a yawning gap in the lifestyle of the coal city.

He said the park has a reinforced concrete pedestrian walkway measuring about 1.9 kilometers, and a large  pond deep enough to offer hydrodynamics for boat riding in addition to the gigantic Lion sculpture. Noting that it was widely believed that the sculpture of a giant roaring lion at the park currently interrogates existing world records on lion sculpture, Ugwuanyi revealed that his administration has applied to World Records Organisations to review this and allocate to the state its rightly place in world history.

Earlier in his welcome address, the State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Ugonna Ibe, commended Ugwuanyi for the landmark feat in enhancing Enugu State’s status in local and international tourism.

According to him: “After the demise of the Zoological Garden and Polo Park, the state lacked a recreational park to satisfy the ever un-quenching relaxational needs of both local and international tourists that visit Enugu in large number... The unity Park represents the synergy amongst the three senatorial districts of the state.”

He therefore called all the good of Enugu State to join in the peace building process as there can be no unity without peace.

On his part, the chairman of the Actor's Guild of Nigeria, Enugu State chapter, Comr. Brown Ene, while congratulating the governor on his six years in office as well as appreciating him for the success of his administration so far, described the project as timely, strategic and a revolutionary move to reposition the Tourism sector in the state. The chairman who led top Nollywood Stars to the event in support of the visionary leadership of Governor Ugwuanyi, revealed that the state played a vital role in the emergence of the second largest film industry in the world and pledged that the Nollywood industry, which is an integral part of the sector is willing to partner with the state government to further expand the Tourism and entertainment sector in the state.

Nollywood Stars that attended the event  include Nkiru Sylvanus AKA Bleble, Chidiebere and Chidinma Aneke, Former Southeast vice  president of the Actor's Guild of Nigeria, Steve Eboh AKA Ajebo, Former chairman of the Actor's Guild of Nigeria, Enugu State chapter Stan K Amamdi, former AGN Vice chairman, Enugu State chapter,  AB cowboy and members of the Brown Ene led Executive of Enugu State chapter.

Also speaking, the women leader of the People's Democratic Party, Enugu State chapter Lady Vera, while conveying the women's gratitude over the project, pledged to mobilize women across board to support the activities of the Governor in the remaining two years in office governor as he has within the last six years done overwhelmingly great.
