Anambra lawyers’ Summit: Legal expert tasks NBA on empowerment of young lawyers

Chukwuka Ikuazom, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has called for the empowerment of young Nigeria lawyers by the Nigeria Bar Association.
The empowerment, according to him, would enable young lawyers reposition their roles in nation building and to understand need for their involvement in laws and politics.
He made the call recently at the Anambra Young Lawyers and Youth Summit held at Marble Arch Hotel Awka on the 25th of September 2021.
Mr Ikuazom, a former chairman NBA Lagos Branch and who shared his experience in the legal profession stated the importance of Young Nigeria lawyers to understand the power they posses in nation buildings and changing the society.
According to him, Nigeria legal proffession is endangered and far from perfect due to challenges faced by the country which Includes ethnic conflict and insecurities.
He also said that every lawyer has the responsibility to act as a bridge between the law and politics which he pointed as being integrated and inseparable.
He however charged the young Nigeria lawyers to take responsibility for their future and not just rely on the NBA for a better future. He also advised them to shun apathied rule by taking interest in politics, joining conversation, challenge bad and unjust law, taking active part in pursuing legislative reforms like justice reform projects and start up bills which are currently undergoing reforms.
To succeed in life, he encouraged young lawyers to look into opportunities in entertainment sectors, look beyond being litigation lawyers but educate their peers through writing, mentoring and advocacy.
Among the attendees were Chief Una Anene who chaired the occasion; Mr Nnamdi Nwadinobi; Chairman NBA Awka Branch, Mr Ken Nwanna; Former chairman NBA Idemili branch of NBA, Mr. P.A Oseme and Barr. Chineye Ezeocha represented by Registrar Barr. Philomena Okoye.
