NSITF celebrate 2023 World Day for Safety and Health at work

As part of the activities for the celebration of 2023 World Day for Safety and Health at work, Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Calabar Branch has staged a mega sensitization rally in Calabar on Friday.

The branch manager of NSITF, Calabar, Mrs Idara Ugot , explained that the essence of the rally was to educate workers and people to  take their health and safety issues as a  serious business.

She stressed the importance of  individuals, companies and their staff as well as other workers to get themselves involved.

Mrs Ugot went further to explained that in a working environment, safety must be given top priority and called on all employers to create a safe, conducive working environment where all workers can operate and. Carry out their daily routines without fear of being  exposed to injuries or losing their lives.

"It is our right to work and also to in a safe and healthy environment," adding that it is crucial that people should be aware that it is their fundamental  right, "a working environment where workers are safe and where modalities are put in place for safety of all in any working environment." 

Also speaking during the Rally, Mr Peter Archibong a worker who resides in Calabar, revealed that indeed many people need to be taught about safety, because many people suffer greatly on a daily basis at their different working environments.

"I'm so delighted to see you guy's come out today to talk to the people about safety, many of us workers are suffering, I have a friend who lost his arm at work due to lack of proper maintenance of equipments and has not been compensated by the company till date.

"I wish many of these companies can listen to you guys and learn and especially we the workers, we take into consideration the need to stay healthy and safe while working for our daily bread"... Mr Archibong added.

Staffs of the NSITF Calabar, went on to sensitize, companies and workers on the be safe at the work place and the importance of embracing the employee compensation scheme.

Earlier In her  speech during the exercise, the BM  NSITF, Calabar revealed that in a working environment, Safety must come first, she called on all employers to create a safe working environment where workers can carry out their day to day working activities without fear of getting injured or losing their lives.

 In her  words "It is our right to work and also to work in a safe and healthy environment.." 

The Rally which was aimed at reaching out to the ignorant public on the hazards that can be avoided in our various working environment, witnessed a positive outcome as the people of Calabar expressed their joy with the organization's aim.
