In an industry driven by passion, resilience and relentless creativity, few young filmmakers have carved a path as remarkable as Francis Anekwe.

Celebrating six years in the Nigerian film industry, the award-winning director is once again poised to make headlines as he prepares to commence production on three new movies in Lagos this March and April.

The projects, Sisters Cross, Beyond the Will, and Obsession are expected to further cement his reputation as one of the most dynamic and fast-rising directors in Nollywood and as a creative who knows his onions.

With over 80 movies to his credit and five prestigious awards earned within just six years, Anekwe’s rise has been nothing short of extraordinary and an inspiration. From the bustling film hubs of Asaba to the thriving production cities of Lagos and Abuja, his creative footprint continues to expand across Nigeria’s cinematic terrain.

He has directed almost all A-list actors in Nollywood, including acclaimed screen diva Mercy Johnson, delivering productions that have captivated audiences both locally and internationally. Several of his films have surpassed two million views on YouTube and enjoyed massive waves on Africa Magic, positioning him among the pioneers whose digital success reshaped audience engagement in the industry.

Beyond his directorial achievements, Anekwe has contributed significantly to talent development. He has trained and raised two film directors who are currently thriving in the industry, while also influencing the rise of about four fast-growing actors making strong marks in Nollywood today.His leadership and mentorship testify to commitment not only to personal success but to building the next generation of storytellers.

Hailing from Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Francis Anekwe proudly stands as the first film director from his kindred, a trailblazer inspiring many young creatives from his community and the next big thing to watch out for in the area of directing.

He began his academic journey at St. Luke’s Primary School, Abuja, proceeded to Government Secondary School, Kubwa, Abuja, and later earned an Upper Credit in Human Resources Management from Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi-Uku.


In conclusion, as he prepares for his upcoming productions in Lagos, Anekwe is also setting his sights beyond Nigeria. Plans are underway for a Netflix-bound film titled A Trip to Kampala, scheduled for December release, a bold step toward international expansion.

With aspirations to shoot in Hollywood soon, the young filmmaker continues to dream big, proving that Nollywood’s future is in capable hands. While professionally soaring, Francis Anekwe remains single but in a serious relationship and admirers are hopeful that wedding bells may ring in the near future.
