The former Attorney General of Cross River State and current Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Cross River State as well as a founding member of the PDP, Barr. Attah Ochinke has affirmed the existence of zoning arrangement in the People's Democratic Party(PDP) ab initio.
Barr Ochinke who made the remarks during the consultation visit of Distinguished Senator Gershom Bassey in Ikom on Tuesday, 11th January 2022, asserted that, Ikom people have supported the past administrations that governed Cross River and Sen. Gershom Bassey was part and parcel of the planning of the successful administrations.
He encouraged the people of Ikom to support Sen. Gershom who developed every administrative portfolios he found himself especially during his tenure as Chairman, Cross River State Waterboard Limited, where he ensured that water flowed from Calabar to Yakurr, Ikom, Ogoja and Obudu.
He reiterated that Cross River needs somebody who has excellently performed in the successful administrations to repair the damaged and defaced economy Cross River State is suffering from.
Speaking on the issue of zoning, Ochinke mentioned that zoning has been a culture of the PDP which has kept Cross River in peace , fairness and tranquility, and the same zoning has benefited the people of Ikom and so the people should support Sen. Gershom Bassey for the delivery of optimum governance to Cross Riverians.
He also posited that zoning simply means turn by turn, and whoever's turn it is should be allowed to benefit from the arrangement.
