Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs Seeks Collaboration With Immigration Services for Refugee Rights and Security Enhancement


The Honorable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Mrs Helen Isamoh- Egodo PhD and her team, on Thursday, 7th December, 2023, paid a visit to the Nigerian Immigration Services, Cross River State Command. 


The engagement marked an important step towards ensuring the protection and promotion of the rights of Refugees and the vulnerable populations. 

During the visit, Dr Egodo had fruitful discussions with the dedicated officials of the Service, addressing various issues related to humanitarian affairs. They explored ways to enhance the protection of vulnerable populations, facilitate safe migration, and ensure the humane treatment of individuals seeking asylum or refuge. 

The engagement highlighted the commitment of both parties to uphold human rights principles and work collaboratively towards a more inclusive and compassionate immigration system.


Mr Emmanuel Olayinka, Pcc+, The Controller of Immigration Services appreciated Dr Egodo and her team for the visit positing that the engagement also serves as a reminder of the importance of dialogue, cooperation and collaboration in addressing Humanitarian challenges.

Going further, Dr Egodo asserted that Collaborating with law enforcement agencies, such as immigration authorities or intelligence agencies, can help gather intelligence on potential threats and disrupt illegal migration networks. 

The Deputy Controller of Immigration, Mr Emeka Okoro  empathized on the need to strengthen the existing relationship between both bodies and trust and cooperation enabling them to gather information on potential security risks and vulnerabilities.
