In commemoration of the 2025 edition of the Yala New Yam Festival, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Cross River State Governor, Hon. Boniface Okache, has donated six live cows and provided cash support to the people of Okpoma and O’Oh Wards, as well as several other communities and groups in Yala Local Government Area.

The distribution, which took place at his country home in Utukpo Okpoma, drew a large crowd of supporters, stakeholders, and community leaders who gathered to witness the event.

Speaking at the gathering, Hon. Okache explained that the gesture was aimed at complementing the State Government’s efforts in promoting and highlighting the cultural significance of the festival.

“This is my little way of supporting what His Excellency, the Governor, has already done through the Deputy Governor yesterday to highlight the importance of the New Yam Festival,” he said

He further reiterated Governor Otu’s commitment to the wellbeing and development of not only Yala LGA but the entire state, while urging the people to remain steadfast in their support and prayers for the present administration.

Hon. Okache also extended his best wishes for a joyful and memorable celebration, inviting everyone to join him at his residence for the climax of the festivities.

In their separate remarks, the Councillor representing O’Oh Ward, Hon. Emmanuel Aleje, and his Okpoma counterpart, Hon. Gregory Iyaji, applauded the gesture, describing it as a true reflection of responsive leadership.

“This kind of support shows real commitment to the welfare of our people. By donating cows and financial assistance, our leader, Hon. Okache, has lightened the burden of celebration and reinforced the unity that the New Yam Festival represents. We are grateful, and we assure him and Governor Otu of our continued support and prayers,” they said.

On his part, the Chairman of the APC O’Oh Ward, Mr. Ogbudu Godwin, commended Hon. Okache for his consistency in giving back to the people, stressing that he has proven time and again that leadership is about service.

“Hon. Okache’s support has united our people and brought joy to many households during this year’s New Yam Festival. We are proud of him, and we pledge our loyalty both to him and to the People’s Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Otu,” Ogbudu stated.

The event ended on a cheerful note with stakeholders praying for Hon. Okache’s continued success and greater achievements in the years ahead.
