With the outbreak of the dreaded corona virus pandemics with its attendant deaths and incarceration of several thousand of people the world over and with number of confirmed cases reaching an alarming proportion of 131 within a short space of arrival in the country, Nigerians have become fearful and confused especially with several rumors and misinformation making rounds on social media.
Recently, there have been several reports that tend to induce fear and cause anxiety in the society. One of those reports is that the virus has entered Cross River State.
First, there was a report that a case has been confirmed in Ikom, headquarters of Ikom LGA and another in Ugep, headquarters of Yakurr Local Government Area but both reports were later debunked as mere rumors.
And just this morning, another report came that a case has been confirmed in Calabar and that the patient has been rushed to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.
The chief Medical Director of the University of Calabar teaching hospital Prof Ikpeme Ikpeme has come out to debunk the report as untrue and the occupation of rumors mongers.
He said although there was a suspected case but maintained that it has not been proven yet.
