The executive chairman of Obubra Local Government Council, Hon Dr Bassey Agara Tom has decried the continuous darkness experienced in Obubra LGA despite the effort of the digital governor of the state, Sir Ben Ayade in making and implementing  policies geared toward bringing succor to the lives of the people, which also include improvement of electricity supply in the state. The chairman said this yesterday June 19 as he paid a visit to the officials of the PHCN in Apiapum. When asked why the Local Government is starved of light that other LGAs are enjoying, the manager in charge of Obubra distribution unit, Engr. Patrick said some transformers and feeders were in very bad conditions and until they are replaced, electricity supply in the LGA will remain a mirage. He said the chairman should focus in the council area light for his comfort, an advice the chairman declined, saying that his priority was to lit Obubra at large. The manager,  engr Patrick thanked the chairman, Dr Bassey Tom for his pragmatic approach to leadership and the enthusiasm he has started with, saying that he has absolute confidence in him that he will do marvelously for the people, as they voted him massively considering the proactive steps he is taking few weeks after assuming power.

On his part, the chairman reiterated his resolve and commitment to improving on the lives of the people, and promised to do everything within his reach to change the narratives of Obubra land. He said the development of Obubra Local Government Area was key in his policy box, and electricity must be prioritised for the development to be achieved. He went further to charge the officials to take stock of what to be changed and report to him in his office next week without delay, in order to swing into action immediately as he desires to see a steady or near steady supply of electricity in Obubra and its environs. He added that he was elected into power as the executive chairman to complement the effort of the digital governor in delivering on the gains and dividends of democracy to the people of Obubra, a task he must perform with alacrity.

Meanwhile, the chairman Dr Bassey Agara Tom has  also yesterday 19th June, taken a tour round the mile one market to ascertain the salutary condition of the market. Unfortunately, he discovered a pyramid of waste very close to the market especially where food items are displayed for sale. The chairman said the dump hill in such a sensitive area of the market is unwholesome to the innocent people who sell and buy within the vicinity. He ordered that the debris be removed forthwith, and another area be mapped out for further dumping of refuse coming from the market. Speaking further, the chairman charged the people to be hygienic and always maintain a clean and healthy environment outside and within the market to ensure a salubrious living. He promised to do his best as the chairman, in offering purposeful and quality services to the people.
