The Nollywood practitioner,a patriot and author of the book 'How to become a movie star' emphasises on the need for peace and stability as a Panacea for development.
OBUBRA
1. Obubra!
Your tales
Tower above the Everest
And your name
Sweeter than the rest
At your age
Your name should be held
Like a first class certificate
And your tales read
Like chapters of the Holy Books.
But you're faraway
From the harbour.
You’re an LGA with eleven council wards
Eighty something communities and over
Four hundred thousand inhabitants
Sitting in the playground of Cross River State
2. Obubra!
You’re an edifice of a true pluralistic
Society
In your linguistic
And Socio-cultural complexity
The Mbembe, Yala etcetera
Co-existence
Is like Lord Lugard’s 1914 marriage
Of North and
South
Meant to beautify your landscape with your rich Cultural diversity.
3. Obubra, my motherland
Your land’s dotted with great
Intellectual, Agricultural, mineral,
Etcetera
Resources like a galaxy of stars
Your offsprings in the persons of the: Okpas, Ireks, Etabas,Okpechis, Ovats, Egbaras, Egbas, Achigbes, Ngbonghas, Ebokpos, others have cultivated
Your rich soil with good mounts
Of achievement
Why aren't you brandishing your star?
4. My Obubra
You’re a theatre of rich cultural
heritage, especially with those you
Display in Idang, Moninkim, Abhu, Okpambe fishing festival and other intriguing Cultural celebrations.
The Onyen Okpon cave, the Ogurude islands, the Omindom stone monoliths, The Eja farms and other inspiring sights speak volumes
Of your great endowment in tourism and Agriculture
5. Obubra!
Heir of the Central
What’s crippled your growth
Like other LGAs in the state?
Why have you allowed your sons to outgrow you
I shall make mention no more of
Your perpetual land disputes, communal clashes and cultism
Watering blood on
Your soil
Like rain on earth
Neither will I celebrate you for running the race of Judas
That instead of helping to stand,
You're rather playing a stunt on your siblings
My poetic mind shall dwell no
More in your web of kwashiorkored
Growth
And compromised birthright
Rather I shall
Awaken the genus in your sons and daughters to
Wake you up from sleep with
Good representation and service.
6. Ubira,
I shall call you by your birth name
and no longer by your anglocized
Nomenclature
I shall call you father
Even when all you are is Methuselah
I pray for that historic day
You'll rise up and take your place
In the comity of other LGA’s
As the elephant of the age.
Rise up and walk
Oh the new Obubra
Like a cripple raised to feet
Strong enough to walk for freedom
And fend for the army of dreams begging for expressions
Dust your eyes and see
Oh mother of light
Like a blind given new eyes
Lead your way into eldorado
And redeem yourself from self imprisonment
Stand up and speak
Like a dumb healed of dumbness
Speak for posterity
Speak for all of us
Burn to ashes
Bury the old Obubra
Let the new one rise
From the love of its organs.
Rise up New Obubra.
