Pensioners In Obubra Meet With Council Chair, Offer To Contribute Their wealth of experience To The Growth Of  The LGA.


The leadership of the Association of Local Government Pensioners, Obubra Local Government Chapter has yesterday October 26th, 2020 paid a special visit to the Executive Chairman of Obubra Local Government Council in his office. The Association led by its Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Obindim comprises all pensioners in Obubra Local Government Council.


Speaking on behalf of others, the Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Obindim said their visit was to familiarise themselves with the Executive Chairman of Council, Hon Dr Bassey Agara Tom, and to register their unwavering support for his administration. He congratulated the Chairman on his well deserved victory at the poll, and the capacity he is displaying in office, describing his leadership as second to none. 


The Association Chairman listed their achievements over time to include, protection of members from being expunged from payroll, training of members to acquire skills in agriculture, leather work, beads making etc. They however thanked the Government for not owing them their pension, and always paying them promptly which they said is what keeps them going. They encouraged the Chairman to remain focused as they were ready to offer their wealth of experience as a way of contributing to the growth of the LGA.

In his response, the Executive Chairman of Obubra Local Government Council, Hon Dr Bassey Agara Tom thanked the people for coming together as an Association meant to protect and encourage members. He commended them for their exposure, which he said was the reason why they are always staying young to the admiration and jealousy of their peers. He described the Association as the lifewire of pensioners, saying that they would have been death if not for their coming together, and their life changing and protective activities.


Dr Bassey Tom said it was everyone's desire to retire and become a pensioner, avering that it takes the grace of God for anyone to attain such height in life. He went further to admonish them to continue to come together and help themselves, declaring his administration readiness to support them in anyway that would be helpful to them, adding that he will not hesitate to tap from their experience whenever the need arises, in order to add spices to his administration.
