THE INVASION AND ARSON ON CROSS RIVER STATE IS A FAILURE OF THE ENTIRE SOCIETY AND WE MUST RISE TO PROTECT OUR COMMON HERITAGE - RT. HON. ETENG JONES WILLIAMS
The Speaker Of Cross River State House Of Assembly RT. HON. ETENG JONES WILLIAMS has described the callous and Impulsive destruction as a deliberate attack on Cross River State. Adding that if the wanton destruction was meant for the Ben Ayade led Administration to learn their lessons and Improve, then that agenda has failed woefully because the State has been taken aback to ground zero and there is nothing to improve upon at this level. He affirmed unapologetically that what has happened is a crime against the State, the people and Our Unborn Generations. Noting that a crime has been committed and the criminals must be punished that the constitution of Nigeria is clear on that.
He averred that the perpetrators are enemies of Cross River State that should be prosecuted in the court of law to serve as a deterrent to others for the sake of posterity.
The Speaker, paraphrased the statements of the German Sociologist and Economic Theorist Karl Marx that Religion is the Opium of the masses. He therefore called on Religious Leaders to talk to their members to make them realize that we need to rise up to protect our common heritage by defending our land from invasion by unholy elements. Stating that the unfortunate and devilish incident is as a result of the failure of the leadership and the entire society. He further called for the suspension of carnival calabar in 2020 that the funds should rather be channeled into rebuilding all structures destroyed across the State. Noting that there is no point celebrating the Carnival when we just lost virtually everything we are known for as a State.
According to The Speaker, the porous nature of the borders of Cross River State is totally unacceptable. He therefore called on the Ben Ayade Led Administration to strengthen community policing to prevent unnecessary invasion of the Cross River State Landscape by hoodlums and unscrupulous elements. Stating that the 9th Assembly has already passed into law a bill on neighborhood security to improve on the safety and general wellbeing of the citizenry. He implored all looters to return everything they looted with immediate effect before the law closes in on them. He applauded His Excellency Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade for the people oriented disposition by ordering that the people should not be harmed during the palliative break in and looting in Cross River State.
Meanwhile the member representing Etung State Constituency in the Cross River State House Of Assembly Hon. Chris Njah Mbu-Ogar described the crisis as a premeditated action orchestrated by antecedent malice. Noting that the signs were clear for all to see. He therefore apologized to the victims of the October 24th Wanton destruction. He vehemently condemned the dastardly act by Men Of The Underworld In it’s entirety. Noting that the attack was deliberately orchestrated to bring Cross River State to ground Zero with impunity. He called on all well intentioned youths of Cross River State to take charge by being hand in glove with the Ben Ayade led Administration in defending our territorial integrity.
He reiterated that carting away the Machinery and destroying the Cross River State Ministry Of Works and the looting of the Calabar International Conference Centre to the tiles on the ground with impunity goes beyond the ordinary and what was needed by the perpetrators. Stating that those actors came specifically to implement a premeditated agenda to make Cross River State Ungovernable.
Hon Njah also called on the custodians of our customs and the traditional institutions to join the crusade to rebuild Cross River State from where we are at the moment. He reemphasized that as far as lives were not destroyed that Cross River State Will Rise Again Under God.
He also affirmed that all right thinking members of the society must condemn the massive destruction in Cross River State. He therefore called on political leaders and the traditional institutions to come together with service commanders to find a lasting solution to the problem. According to him, this is not a time for the blame game, reiterating that Governor Ben Ayade needs all the support and encouragement required to come up with productive ways of restructuring and rebuilding Cross River State.
