Rt. Hon. Mike Etaba Engages Chiefs, Women And Youths Of Ovonum/Ofatura Communities, Harps On Peace 


The member representing Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency, Rt Hon. Mike Etaba, has urged leaders, women and youths of Ovonum and Ofatura, the two warring communities in Obubra Local Government Area to embrace peace and put an end to the recurring conflict.

In a meeting with the communities on Saturday in the palace of the Kwididen of Adun, Etaba emphasised the importance of peace, noting that it is an important part of growth and development. 

The member who was represented by Snr. Comr. Dan Obo, the chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Cross River State chapter hammered on the critical role played by young people in ensuring peace and development,  revealing that he had previously met with other warring communities in the area to discuss peaceful coexistence. He urged the youths to shun violence and see war as a destructive tool that hinders development.

Etaba further encouraged the warring communities to seek peaceful means of resolving land disputes instead of resorting to violence, emphasising that promoting peace would foster the development of the two communities and create a conducive environment for growth.

The meeting is one of several peace initiatives orchestrated by Etaba and other leaders in the area. It is believed that a resolution to the conflict is vital for the development and well-being of the entire Obubra/Etung Federal constituency

In his reaction, His Royal Majesty, Ovarr Patrick Erong, the Kudiden of Adun, thanked the representative, assuring him of the speedy return of peace as leaders of  both communities have agreed to commit to it. He revealed further that the traditional rulers council of both Okum and Adun kingdoms were in the process of midwifing the return of permanent peace to Ofatura/Ovonum.
