Students Of The College Of Nursing And Midwifery Science, Itigidi Pay A Courtesy Call On The C'River Commissioner For Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Helen Isamoh-Egodo

Students of the College of Nursing and Midwifery Science, Itigidi on Friday, paid a courtesy call on the Honourable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Cross River State, Mrs Helen Isamoh-Egodo, PhD, in her Hope Waddel office, Calabar.

The visit, according to the students, was to congratulate the commissioner on her appointment and to appeal for inclusion in the distribution of palliatives in the state.

Speaking, the president, Students Union Government (SUG) of the college, Tomipiriya Briggs, expressed gratitude to His Excellency, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu for appointing a handful of women into his cabinet, particularly, for assigning Dr. Helen Egodo to the ministry of humanitarian Affairs, affirming confidence in her ability to drive the state's humanitarian agenda.

Briggs expressed concern over the exclusion of students nurses in the last exercise, appealing that the college be considered in subsequent distributions of palliative measures.

The SUG president seized the opportunity to invite the commissioner and the entire staff of the ministry to the student's award ceremony, which would include, among other activities, the unveiling of the constitution. She noted that the commissioner has over the years demonstrated an unflinching commitment to quality education and has, in many counts, rendered support to students in the state.

Reacting, the honourable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Helen Isamoh-Egodo, responded positively to the concerns raised, assuring the student nurses that their demands would be addressed. She pledged to connect the students' union government with the leadership of the National Association of Cross River State Students, NACRISS, the umbrella body for Cross River State students. The Commissioner explained that the palliative measure is primarily for Cross Riverians, and that Cross River State Students in the college would be considered going forward.

Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Cross River State
