2023 World Food Day: C'River Commissioner For Agriculture And Irrigation Development, Johnson Ebokpo Jnr Inaugurates Planning Committee

Ahead of the 2023 World Food Day, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Irrigation Development, Hon. Johnson Ebokpo jnr. has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee (CPC) to plan activities for the celebration in the State.


The inauguration took place in the Produce School hall of the Ministry, with members of the committee constituted from the various stakeholders in the Agriculture sector.


Commissioner Ebokpo charged the Committee to work assiduously and explore innovations that will make this year celebration robust,  impactful and more rewarding adding that the committee should ensure enough awareness of all the line up of activities for the 2023 celebration.


In response, the Central Planning Committee Chairman who is also the Director, Food nutrition and Marketing Department in the Agriculture and Irrigation Development Ministry, Chief Alban Nwogu noted that the World Food Day is an event that is always anticipated because of the global importance of food which can not be overemphasized.


Chief Nwogu stated that World Food Day designated by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)  in 1979 is celebrated on October 16 annually.


This year's theme "Water is Life, Water is food. Leave no one behind!" , according to the Planning Committee Chairman, aims to highlight the critical role of water for life on earth and water as the foundation of our food.

 

Chief Nwogu intimated that for proper planning, six sub committees have been constituted with serious considerations of all stakeholders in the sector, emphasizing that food is consumed by everyone hence "no one should be left behind" in this year's celebration.


He informed that  activities for the event will include a maiden edition of Agric Summit, symposiums, public Broadcast, Exhibitions and lots of interesting packages.


While thanking the Commissioner for Agriculture and Irrigation Development for entrusting the committee with such an important assignment for the State, Chief Nwogu assured that efforts will be intensified to achieve the best and called for partnership from relevant stakeholders to ensure a better 2023 World Food Day celebration in Cross River State.
