C'River Govt Rehabilitates Former Athlete, Ironbar Bassey


The Cross River State government through its Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs in collaboration with the 10th State House of Assembly, has rehabilitated a former athlete, Bassey Etim Ironbar. Ironbar, a 1981 Nigerian Sports Festival Gold medalist, was said to have been living in extreme poverty in the streets of Lagos before he was discovered by the team on 8th September. The Honourable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, CRS, Dr Helen Egodo and other lawmakers led by the Speaker, Hon Elvert Ayambem, embarked on a trip to Lagos to bring back the athlete. The team was successful in bringing him back to Cross River State, thanks to the support of the state governor, Sen Prince Bassey Otu

 
In a message dated September 9, 2023, the Honourable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Dr. Helen Isamoh Egodo wrote:

"In a bid to fulfill our commitment to providing material and logistics assistance to the needy and seeking ways to improve the welfare of Cross Riverians, We (The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs) in Collaboration with the 10th State House of Assembly, CRS took up the initiative to bring back one of our illustrious son. 


On this note, the Honourable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, CRS, Dr Helen Egodo, In Collaboration with the State House of Assembly,10th Assembly, led by the Speaker, Hon Elvert Ayambem and other law makers including Hon. Linus Etim and Hon. Brain Odey, embarked on a trip to Lagos in search of Mr Bassey Etim Ironbar. 


Mr Ironbar was a 1981 Nigerian Sports Festival Gold medalist, who we learned was living in a degenerated socioeconomic circumstance in the streets of Lagos. On the 8th of September,we finally found him. 

We are grateful to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of our dear state HE, Sen Prince Bassey Otu whose Love for humanity made it possible for us to undertake this mission and successfully bring Mr. Ironbar back to Cross River State. He stayed in touch with us all through the search"
