The Commissioner For Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Helen Isamoh-Egodo Receives CRSHOA Committee On NDDC, Women Affairs, Social Welfare, Humanitarian Affairs And Gender Development 

The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Helen Isamoh- Egodo received in her office the Honorable Members of the Cross River State House of Assembly Committee on NDDC, Women Affairs, Social Welfare, Humanitarian Affairs and Gender Development on the 25th of October, 2023.


The Committee of the 10th Assembly was duly constituted among other committees of the house and had commenced it legislative oversight on MDAs within it’s purview. 


This visit was aimed at fostering collaboration, exchanging information and strengthening the partnership between the legislative and executive arms of government in addressing humanitarian challenges in our state. Recognizing the importance of collaboration between these two arms of government, the House Committee initiated a visit to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to gain insights into their operations and discuss ways to enhance the delivery of humanitarian services to our citizens.


Here are some of the highlights of the visit. 


1. Exchange of Information: The visit provided an opportunity for members of the Cross River State House of Assembly Committee to interact with key officials from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs. Discussions focused on the current status of social investments programs, challenges faced in implementation and potential areas for improvement.


2. Review of Legislative Framework: During the visit, the House Committee members and ministry officials reviewed the existing legislative framework governing social investments programs and humanitarian services in Cross River State. They further discussed the need for periodic reviews and updates to ensure that the laws align with evolving needs and best practices. This collaboration will contribute to the development of robust legislation that supports effective implementation and accountability.


3. Strengthening Oversight Mechanisms: The visit emphasized the importance of effective oversight in ensuring transparency, accountability, and the efficient use of resources in the implementation of Life enhancement programs. The House Committee members and ministry officials discussed strategies to enhance oversight mechanisms, including regular reporting, monitoring and evaluation and engagement with relevant stakeholders. This collaboration will strengthen the checks and balances necessary for the successful implementation of humanitarian initiatives.


The engagement between the Cross River State House of Assembly Committee on NDDC, Women Affairs, Social Welfare, Humanitarian Affairs/ Gender Development and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs has laid a strong foundation for enhanced collaboration as Both entities recognized the importance of working together to address humanitarian challenges and improve the well-being of our citizens.
