In a significant move to enhance rice production in Cross River state, the Commissioner for Crops and Irrigation Development, Hon. Johnson Andiambey Ebokpo, recently presented rice milling machines to beneficiaries from various parts of the state. This initiative, spearheaded by the Cross River State Chapter of the Rice Mill Association of Nigeria, aims to bolster the rice value chain in the region and contribute to broader food security efforts.

The presentation ceremony followed a cordial meeting between Commissioner Ebokpo and the leadership of the Rice Mill Association. During this meeting, the Commissioner expressed his deep appreciation for the association’s pivotal role in the rice value chain. He also urged them to align with the agricultural revolution championed by the Senator Bassey Otu-led administration. The goal is to ensure food security not only in Cross River but also across Nigeria.

Commissioner Ebokpo emphasized the significance of rice in the agriculture sector and highlighted its place among the core value chains supported by his ministry. He assured the association of the ministry’s unwavering support in their endeavors to boost rice production and processing

 Prior to the machinery presentation, Chief John Itaji, the State chapter Chairman of the Rice Mill Association of Nigeria, along with Coordinators from all Local Government Areas in the state, provided valuable insights into the association’s mandate. They oversee rice milling and marketing activities in the state, striving to promote the growth of this vital agricultural sector.

In a symbolic gesture, Commissioner Ebokpo presented certificates of recognition to the association’s executive committee members, acknowledging their dedication and commitment to advancing rice production and food security in Cross River State.

This initiative represents a crucial step towards harnessing the agricultural potential of Cross River State and contributing to Nigeria’s efforts in achieving food self-sufficiency.
