CrossRiver NYCN Elections 2020: The Fact vs The Farce: Setting the Records Straight
By Umezulike C. Desmond-Cruz
It is no longer news that the beautiful morning of Friday 19th June 2020 heralded a significant happening in Cross River State, wherein an avalanche of ebullient Youths converged in U.J Esuene Stadium to chart a common course to birth a new executive council that would pilot the affairs of NYCN Cross River State Chapter, faced with threatening security challenge, the CPC in exercising it's constitutional powers in line with the "doctrine of necessity" called for an emergency congress, wherein the CPC Chairman announced the unanimous decision of the CPC, VYOs and Local Government Chapter Coordinators, to stop the electoral process on grounds of insecurity.
Following the announcement made by the CPC Chairman and endorsed by Congressmen, the election was unanimously put on hold. But for the purpose of clarity and futurity, it is pertinent to make the following factual and categorical statements, judging from the aftermath of the election.
*THE FARCE:*
It is highly ludicrous and insulting that a negligible number of faceless people passed a vote of no confidence on the CPC against the unanimous decision of the General Congressmen. This action is not only ridiculous but unfathomable as well as unconstitutional. It is laughable that a faceless entity presided over a kangaroo Congress, wherein less than 20 people unconstitutionally and allegedly passed a vote of no confidence on the authentic CPC and then coerced 3 faceless entities to declare themselves the new CPC. This act of illegality calls for the following questions and concerns.
1. What is the name of the faceless entity that presided over the kangaroo Congress that allegedly passed a vote of no confidence on our impeccable CPC Members?
2. What position does the faceless entity occupy in NYCN? Is he the CPC Chairman or the yet-to-be dissolved Chairman of NYCN (as that friday, Prince Ndiyo Led administration was yet to be dissolved).
3. Who moved the motion for the congress and dissolution of the CPC?
4. Are these faceless entities aware that the constitution of NYCN expressly states that only the CPC Chairman or the Outgoing Chairman have the constitutional right to PRESIDE over a Congress?
5. How many of these faceless entities are members of NYCN in Cross River State?
6. How many eligible delegates were part of the kangaroo Congress presided over by the faceless entities?
*THE FACT*:
On 20th June 2020, the CPC after a meeting with all the eligible delegates, Aspirants (Candidates) and VYOs carried out a credible election wherein Comrade Dan. Obo emerged the winner of the election, pulling 51 Votes, while Victor Ndifon had 27votes, Gifted Nelson had 2 Votes and Ofem Okoi recorded no vote.
The process was adjudged credible, free and fair by all the eligible delegates that voted.
While i understand that it is natural for anyone to feel bad having lost an election, i would sincerely advise we stop casting unnecessary aspersions on people especially the CPC that staked their time and resources to deliver a credible election. While I understand that some diehard supporters of some of the candidates that lost out of the election, are aggrieved, I want to sincerely enjoin them to stop spreading unfathomable and fallacious tales aimed at discrediting the electoral process and garnering public sympathy.
One of the whining supporter had taken to his Facebook page to accuse everyone but himself. He even went as far as accusing the State Government of conniving with the CPC, through the Commissioner for Youths and Skill Acquisition to produce Snr. Comrade Dan Obo as winner of the election, an accusation I honestly find too disheartening and unbecoming. Quite pathetic is the fact that this accuser of the brethren is a faceless entity and is not even a member of NYCN Cross River State.
One of the Candidates, that tried to skew the electoral process to favour her aspiration, took to social media to discredit the election. For the sake of posterity, it is pertinent to stress that the said Cry Cry Lady, voted during the election and tried many other unprintable shenanigans to win her election but all to no avail. As a student of history, it is sacrosanct to remind Cross Riverians that the same person who hijacked the students body of her Local Government Area for 9 turbulent Years, and also caused the factionalization of NACRISS-WW, is the same person crying today, after failing to cow the CPC to declare her winner in an election that she contested and failed woefully. Such a brazen act of insolence!!!
Fellow Cross Riverians, I wish to ask the following questions;
Between the person that nearly naked herself in public just to coerce the CPC Chairman to announce her winner and the CPC members that refused and rejected all her unholy entreaties and stood by the path of truth, Who should be called epitome of Integrity?
Between some old narcissistic megalomaniacs parading themselves as Stakeholders of NYCN that Collected Bribes and then tried to foist their interest on the youth AND the CPC members that stood on the path of righteousness, Who shall we call Men of Integrity?
Between those that caused faction in NACRISS-WW and those that have continued to build our beloved NYCN, who do we see as the enemies?
Between some old men that jostled for the position of CPC Chairman as their "retirement entitlement" and the CPC members that were produced following due process, Who should we call men of Integrity??
Dear Fellow Cross Riverians, let nobody deceive you with their emotional outburst, your tear rubber NYCN CHAIRMAN remain Comrade Dan Obo!!
While I understand the tears of some of this whining entities, I call on the leadership of Comrade Dan Obo to set up a reconciliation committee and extend some olive branch to the aggrieved. We are one united Family of reasonable and responsible Youths.
God bless NYCN Cross River State!!!
May Snr. Comr. Dan Obo Succeed.
