Bassey Bags Award of Excellence, Attributes Success To Ayade

The Cross River State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Mfon Bassey has been presented with an Award of Excellence for outstanding performance by the Coalition of Civil Society Organization in Nigeria (COCSON).

Receiving the award in his Office in Calabar, Hon. Bassey thanked Governor Ben Ayade for finding him worthy to serve in such capacity as Environment Commissioner and promised to do everything  within his jurisdiction as it concerns the environment for the betterment of the State.

The Commissioner commended the Governor for the funding his Ministry has received so far, which has culminated in the transformation of the State capital despite the Covid-19 pandemic that has stampeded the smooth running of activities in every sector of the economy  globally. He firther appealed for more funding for more deliverables and achievement of his Ministry's mandate.

Hon. Bassey hinted that the the Ayade-led administration's policy thrust is to reposition the State as a model for social harmony and Nigeria's first choice destination for business, tourism and leisure.

He expressed gratitude to the group for the award, positing that his office will remain open to innovations that would catapult the state to an enviable height in environmental remediation and sustainability.

Presenting the award, COCSON's National Chairman, Comrade Olanrewayu Peter, said the award was in recognition of the Commissioner's outstanding performance in the environment sector which has maintained the status quo of Calabar as the cleanest and greenest State capital.

He stated that Cross River is one of the few States that recognized the inevitability of environmental cleanliness to the health and economy of the nation.

Mr Olanrewayu admonished the Commissioner, as well as the Ministry to sustain the tempo for the overall growth and development of the State.

Present at the presentation were the Ministry's Director of Accounts, Mr Edem Ita, Deputy Director Climate Change, Mr Okeh Francis, and the Procurement Officer, Mr Samuel Ikpi.
