C'River: Obubra Council Boss Receives Over 7500 APC Defectors Into PDP, Says The Umbrella Is Large Enough To Accommodate All.

Yesterday, July 5, 2020 marks another timorous day for the All Progressive Congress, APC as the former leader of the Obubra legislative Chambers, Hon. Gilbert Obia also known as Oh win-the-war defected with over 7500 defectors into the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The defection which is said to be one of the teeming political events in the recent times with over 7500 defectors took place at Ovonom in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State.
When asked the reason for the defection, Hon. Gilbert Obia said he has been a member of the PDP since 1998, but was later beguiled by some political frivolities which made him to absquatulate to the All Progressive Congress, APC. The former legislative leader added that he regretted his actions because since he left the PDP to the All Progressive Congress, APC, neither he nor his faithfuls saw the light of their political carriers anymore. According to him "since I left my home, the PDP, it's like I have been cocked in a bottle politically but today, my eyes are opened and I have decided to come out of that darkness and return to my home, PDP where I can be recognised in the society." He further reiterated his regret which according to him, was a mistake on his part, adding that he won't   continue to operate under the shadow of the symbolic broom without result, but will rather run to the umbrella where he can find shelter. He disclosed that there are a lot of other party faithfuls that will be embarking on another round of defection into the PDP soon.

While speaking, Hon. Gilbert Obia stated that he was not interested in the rumour that PDP has two factions because to the best of his knowledge, PDP which is the biggest political party in West Africa has only one formidable body which is headed by Mr. Denis Egor at the chapter level where he, Hon. Gilbert Obia and his followers have decided to be reckoned with. Hence, the need to defect alongside his party faithfuls that cut across the entire Adun including his immediate Ovunom community.

Further more, one of the decampees, Mr Victor Egba of Ofodua, explained that he was no longer in the lane of political relevance as his involvement in his former party (APC) has done him more harm than good and as well thrown him into the abyss of political misdirection. Hence, the need to find solace in the PDP.

While addressing the crowd, the Councilor representing the Ovunom ward, Hon. Anthony Daniel expressed his joy, adding that it is a clear indication that the Adun in its entirety has finally choosen to tow the path of the PDP. He also promised to work in pari passu with his party leadership in ensuring that the decampees are properly taken care of.

Adressing the Defectors, the Chapter Chairman of the PDP, Mr. Denis Egor expressed delight over the defection. He further explained that the party's doors are wide enough to accommodate  all apostates who see the need to be identified with the party. The Chairman added that the party, PDP is one that recognises everyone from all spheres.

While receiving the decampees, the Executive Chairman of Obubra local government Area, Hon. Dr Bassey Agara Tom who expressed his pellucid elation said the decampees made the right choice in their decision making. The chairman of council adjured them to work in accordance with the tenets of the party and as well contribute to its success. He assured them that PDP will continue to work with everyone who sees the umbrella as a shelter. He further appreciated the decampees for their doughtiness and readiness to work for the success of the party as professed while membership cards were handed to them by the chapter Chairman of the PDP.
