Obubra LG Chair Dr. Bassey Agara Tom Getting It Right So Far
By Victor Egba
It is fundamentally agreeable, that those who do the things that count should count the things they do, howbeit in this instance, it is agreed by our local parlance, that only those watching the masquarade dance that can tell of it moves, furthermore, it has been agreed like our people say that "Market weh go fine, the start from morning".
Flowing from this backdrop, it is safe to review the recent activities of the present council Chairman, Dr Tom and as well form an opinion of what Obubra people should expect.
There is no gain say, the facts speaks for itself.
JUNE 10TH
Dr. BASSEY having resumed office met with all Council staffs, to engender a friendly and collaborative working relationship, as well as provide the sense of leadership which has been unavailable for the last five years.
Bassey charged council staffs to embrace the tenets of their civil service, and see beyond the pay check that thier actions are valued and the Executive arm will rely on thier depth of commitment and dedication to duty to succeed in the administration.
JUNE 19th
being proactive, Dr Tom took a tour round the mile one market, as a critical lens to evaluate the states of our markets, which is the main stay of our agro_based economy and farming population. During which he decried the state of hygiene, infrastructure and security. As well as taking into account the needs of the people to create a suitable environment for trading.
JUNE 22
Electricity is the driver of economic development, the bane of social development in Obubra has Amongst others been the epileptic power supply, with some communities totally cut out from the supply of power for decades. These prompted the meeting of the Executive Chairman with the leadership and officials of the Power Holding Company in Obubra LGA, to critically assess the situation and get adequate first hand information. The meeting ended with the Chairman tasking the team to do more in supporting his cardinal objective of restoring lights and improving the supply to residents of the LGA.
JUNE 23
Collaboration with NGO's is critical in driving government policies and attaining maximum results, hence the Chairman amongst many others met with the leadership of the House hold Upliftment Program, saddled with the responsibility of coordinating the Conditional cash transfer (of #5000) initiative of the federal government, to preach transparency and collaboration for the betterment of the very poor.
PEACE AND SECURITY
No palpable Advancement can be achieved without the presence of peace, more so the primary objective of government remains the protection of lives and properties of the people as rightly prayed in the Constitution, Dr Bassey has not slept on the knowledge that the lGA has been plaque by reoccurring communal crisis, a situation his government is dedicated to putting an end to this unfortunate albatross of
recent history.
Little wonder the plethora of consultative and advocacy visits Worthy of note is
a) JUNE 25th: joint meeting with security operatives including the Department of State Security (DSS), Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Army, Civil Defense corps, Peace corps, inter-alia.
b) Meeting with Traditional rulers of all communities to chant a way forward as key stakeholders in the peace keeping.
C) Viable Partnership with border LGAs', firstly the meeting of the Ikom Council Chairman to seek Mutual cooperation in engendering peaceful co_existence of it border communities.
It is worthy to state, Dr Tom has been working tirelessly seeking the cooperation of stakeholders and the people of Obubra in the quest to provide the very engaging leadership required of him and is thus deserving of our collective prayers and support.
God Bless Obubra LGA!!
