Obaseki sends strong warning to Oshiomhole ahead of Edo 2020 guber primary
Edo 2020: Setback for Obaseki as INEC confirms direct primary for APC
INEC has given approval for APC in Edo state to conduct its primary through direct mode.
Both warring parties have been at loggerhead since, with APC lately declaring that it would not go back on its decision to set a level ground for all the aspirants in the state.
Apart from the governor, five other aspirants including Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu have shown interest in governing the state.
In a statement by INEC, the electoral umpire approved direct primary for the ruling party, posing a challenge against the second term ambition of the incumbent governor.
Festus Okoye, INEC spokesman, also disclosed that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), however, opted for an indirect primary election.
Okoye further added that 15 of the 18 parties participating in the September 19 election have indicated interest in conducting primaries.
On why INEC approved direct primary for Edo state, the commission's spokesperson said the law only allows the INEC to interact with the national leadership of the party.
Meanwhile, Obaseki in his reaction described the approval as a febrile imagination of Oshiomhole which cannot stand in Edo state.
