By Bright Ibingha
The executive chairman of Obubra Local Government Council, Hon Dr Bassey Agara Tom has yesterday June 8th resumed duty officially 6 days after inauguration on the 2nd of June 2020. The God fearing chairman in the early hours of the day conducted the priest of St Francis Catholic Church round the council area to anoint and exorcise the council to set it anew considering the known fact that the council has been left desuetude for more than 5 years. The priest who prayed fervently for the chairman and the council in general reiterated his readiness to support the administration of Dr Bassey Tom both morally and spiritually.

Shortly after the anointing session with the priest, the chairman made out time to inspect some sensitive departments in the council in order to be sure of the staff presence in their offices. He admonished them to take their jobs seriously and avoid eyes service, to ensure effective service delivery.

Earlier after inspection, the chairman Dr Bassey Agara Tom received a handover note from the Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA) Mr Larry Ekpenyong. Speaking during the official handing over, Mr Ekpenyong congratulated the executive chairman on his well deserved victory at the poll, and his subsequent inauguration by the digital governor, Sir Ben Ayade. He went further to assure the people of Obubra that with the vast administrative acumen of Dr Bassey Agara Tom given the fact that he has put in many years in the civil service, he was convinced that he will perform maximally in office as the executive chairman of Obubra LGA.

Responding to the Head of Local Government Administration after the official handing over however, the chairman Dr Bassey Tom thanked the HOLGA and the entire staff of the council for their cooperation and readiness to work dilligently with him. He promised the staff that he will do everything possible to give them maximum motivation for better service delivery. He commended the HOLGA for his commitment to claim the council premises from the forest, but frowned at the attitude of those bent on making away with Council properties without scruples, describing their actions as barbaric and wicked. In his response, Mr Ekpenyong attributed the incessant incident of theft in the council to lack of parameter fence and shortage of security personnel due to lack of employment in the council. He pleaded with the chairman to provide security to the council and also light up the premises by working the already moribund solar lights within the council.

The chairman, Dr Bassey Tom has promised to take the challenge of taking Obubra Local Government Area to the eldorado in the short period of time he will serve as the executive chairman of Obubra Council. He solicited continuous support from the staff of the council as well as the general Obubra people, stating vigorously that the new Obubra of our dream is already here.
