OBUBRA COUNCIL CHAIRMAN,DR BASSEY AGARA TOM MEETS WITH COUNCIL STAFF, PROMISES REWARD FOR HARD WORK.

The executive chairman of Obubra Local Government Council, Hon Dr Bassey Agara Tom has yesterday met with a cross section of the staff of Council in the Council auditorium. The meeting which had in attendance the head of Local Government Administration Mr Larry Ekpenyong and his Assistant, directors of departments and other staff was meant to familiarise the staff with the new chairman of Council which also offered an opportunity for the chairman to address them on some pertinent issues.

In a welcome address, the head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA) Mr Larry Ekpenyong congratulated the chairman on his well deserved victory at the poll, saying that his victory was an expression of love by the people of Obubra and that he was certain that the chairman Dr Bassey Tom has the ability to reciprocate the gesture by providing the dividends of Democracy to the people. He said for 5 years now there was no elected government in the Local Area, a situation that has demotivated the staff and reduced productivity.

The staff who took out time to express their happiness over the emergence of the chairman, said they were confident that he will deliver given his wealth of experience as a public servant and begged the chairman to be meeting with them regularly so as to get acquainted with their plight for quick response. In her speech, the head of personnel, Mrs Veronica Eyaba informed the chairman of the staff solemn assembly which takes place every Wednesday to hand over the council and the LGA to God. She begged the chairman to encourage and support the assembly in order to sustain it for the betterment of the Council and Obubra LGA at large.

Speaking after listening to the staff express themselves, the chairman Dr Bassey Tom said he was well pleased with their humble attitude and cooperation since he resumed duty officially on Monday 8th June. He said he was not happy over the level of destruction of Council facilities and urged them to endeavour to handle government properties with care, safeguard them as he makes provision to provide experience security in the Council.

Dr Bassey assured the staff of good policies that will motivate them, adding that his administration will reward hardwork and also punish staff with dubious and nonchalant attitude to work. He advised the staff especially those in charge of revenue to be transparent in their duty, as failure to remit revenue appropriately to the council will attract severe sanctions such that may cost them their job irrespective of their years in service.
